Thanksgiving weekend, we always watch White Christmas here
at the Manor, to kick off the season. I think this is the funniest
part in the movie, thanks to the marvelous Danny Kaye. Maybe
it's just me, but I always laugh so hard at this scene, I can hardly
see it for the tears!
I've seen this movie a hundred times and frankly, forgot about this scene. Going to have to watch this after life settles down...
ReplyDeleteStart the day laughing and dancing, what better ?!! I love taps. And Danny Kaye is very funny.
ReplyDeleteOh Daaaaling,
ReplyDeleteThe theater, the theater, what has happened to the theater.
The Bach
oh my! bat cave revisited.... a true statement of decor, daaaling!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great.
Have a great day!
The Bach
I bought "White Christmas" last year as a gift for Steph. We watched it together as a family and it was the first time that my girls had ever seen it. They had no clue who Danny Kaye was. That was so hard for me to imagine, as he was one of my favs growing up!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this great scene. I think we'll pull out our copy and watch it this week while Lauren is home.
I remember that scene! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou have a very interesting blog. Thank you for your comment on mine.
Great clip willow. When Danny Kaye toured England back in the sixties it was my dad that was his pianist. He had lots of anecdotes about him and DK sounded a real gent.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched this in years...fun!
ReplyDeleteWould you believe I've never seen it? Maybe I should start a tradition...
ReplyDeleteFrench Fancy, seriously?! Wow. I would love to hear some of those personal stories about Mr. Kaye. He seems like he was the most charming and loveable man.
ReplyDeletegreat scene. I just love the bopping music. Hope you have a delicious holiday. There is an award for you on my blog.

Thanks, Susan! I did see that, but forgot to make a note of it. I want to see it, for sure! Did you happen to see the documentary on Alistair Cooke last night? I thought it was very well done.
ReplyDeleteHilariously funny! Thanks for posting this clip.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
oh, i agree! this is hilarious!! at our house we usually watch elf with will ferrell. the guys in our family go in more for that kind of "teenage boy" humor!! smile.
ReplyDelete"White Christmas" is a tradition in my family, too, to be watched when my brother and his family are with me and my mom. After my parents split, we had to find new traditions, and this became one of them. Our favorite scene (as a group) is the whole "Sisters" routine, but my brother's personal favorites include the scene with Danny Kay scooting around the window seat, trying to escape a girl, and the one where he's faking a "simple compound fracture" and has the general help him "walk it off". I pretty much like the one-liners throughout.
ReplyDeleteThis is a ritual at our house as well! The theatre, the theatre! However, for Thanksgiving morning we watch "Miracle on 34th Street"... the black and white version, of course.
ReplyDeleteThe 'bat-cave' looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThe blue gray color scheme is suitably subtle and masculine.
I hope they love it.
it's a family tradition in my family as well - we watch it a few times during the holidays!! One of my favorite stylish movies of all time :-)
ReplyDeletei did enjoy the scene and especially Danny Kaye but I must have a different sense of humour as it did not have me laughing.
ReplyDeleteThey don't make them like Danny Kaye anymore.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and adding a little cheer to my day.

What a lovely tradition!
ReplyDeleteFun clip Lady Willow...
ReplyDeleteSee You later !
Good that I am not the only one who wants to get into Christmas mood!
ReplyDeleteThe movie: "Singin' in the Rain"
ReplyDeleteThe dancer: Donald O'Connor
The song: "Be a Clown"
This is the one that makes me laugh every time!
I loved Danny Kaye. What talent! And what a great way to start off the hols! I need to establish something regular like that too.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I read the title I thought of White Christmas....and so it is! Interesting that you guys start the Holiday season with it.....we end the season with it. Ususally around the 23rd, the family sits down and watches it....telling the same stories about the movie that we've been telling for years, but it always seems new. Thanks for the early preview.
ReplyDeleteGreat incentive for watching this great seasonal movie.
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness we must be separated at birth ' for I have loved this scene from this movie for years!!!! we always watch this movie too at Christmas.. I like the scene too where they sing 'snow, snow, snow, snow, sno -oh.. then they get off the train the next day and - voila, no snow.
ReplyDeletecute cute movie.
Sisters, sisters, there were never ever such sisters...
We used to watch this moving every year with my grandparents that lived 4 hours away. My grandfather passed 12 years ago now and every year I watch it possibly 100 times just to honor that memory. "Choreography" is one of my favorites. Thanks for bringing that wonderful memory to the middle of my day!
