I CRIED over beautiful things knowing no beautiful thing lasts.
The field of cornflower yellow is a scarf at the neck of the copper
sunburned woman, the mother of the year, the taker of seeds.
The northwest wind comes and the yellow is torn full of holes,
new beautiful things come in the first spit of snow on the
northwest wind, and the old things go, not one lasts.
Autumn MovementCarl Sandburg
Life can hold such lovely things! I am thankful that Lady Willow is here
ReplyDeleteThis post is very beaudiful post.
ReplyDeleteIs a wonderful poem, and beautiful picture.
L'éphémère (transcience?) of the most beautiful things just intensifies this beauty, i thing.
Thank you Willow.
That poem sums up today perfectly! The color is almost gone in Ohio, isn't it! Have a wonderful day as the kids begin arrive home! :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. Thank-you for this, Willow. (My oldest girl is home! hooraaay!)
ReplyDeletethe cycles of life. I still remember watching Carl Sandburg on tv at Kennedy's inauguration. He was elderly and his hair blew into his eyes. The wind made the papers he held blow too. Somehow I found it all so sad or maybe melancholy. Though it was a wonderful honor for him. "Old things go, not one lasts."
ReplyDeleteWhat a breathtaking poem. Love the photo, too.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of haunting imagery, I skirted the edge of Ohio this weekend, past a stand of sycamores that jutted up from the brown hills like bleached bones.
Very great text (poem...) Lady Willow !
ReplyDeleteNice photo with te trees and leaves, in colours of autumn...
See You later !
What beauty...thanks
ReplyDeleteYes, autumn is giving way to winter now and the nights are so dark so early. Beautiful poem, Willow.
ReplyDeleteNot one thing lasts is true. Thank goodness for God and for Replacements.com!
ReplyDeleteColor of leaves have changed.
ReplyDeleteInsects are going to hibernation.
But I can't feel it in daily life of capital city of this country.
I need to take holidays.
Simply beautiful. =)
ReplyDeleteGreat thought for the day!
ReplyDeleteAnother, similar--
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Robert Frost
I really love this photo...it is stunning. Something I would hang in my office. Lovely
ReplyDeleteI ADORE this...thank you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful poem, it expresses my feelings exactly this time of year. It's a loss we share every year at Winter and one we charish every Spring...is it Spring yet???
ReplyDeletewow - beautiful words and the image is yummy - have a fabulous holiday, Willow - xo
ReplyDeleteWow! What a beautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteAll the yellow and orange has been blown away here. Now we await snow - but here in the south we don't hold our breath.
Beautiful poem and picture!
ReplyDeleteWe were both in the same mood, post-wise, your poem selection enhances it greatly. Thank you for sharing it! :-)
Our little tree with the yellow leaves is nearly bare now. Time for it to be covered with snow. Please?
ReplyDeleteSo many reporting snow and a true letting go of fall...it is much more subtle here...a little rain, a little sun and cooler but mild compared to so many parts of the country. There is such beauty in the snowy landscape...enjoy your view and your cozy warm home.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of days that I wished were never ending...but it all ends. I read poetry but I never read much Sandburg. You remind me to post a poem on my blog that I read the other day.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful piece of poetry, full of pensive imagery....beautiful things come in....the old things go, not one lasts.
ReplyDeleteI love Carl Sandburg, and last spring, I actually got to visit Connemara, his home in NC where he died and his wife raised the goats. It was a beautiful spot. Wonderful poem.
ReplyDeleteThis is abreathtakingly colorful poem!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how it is that I've never read that those perfect lines, but I am glad, glad, glad you shared them with us. Happy Thanksgiving!
