With the Manor Cyber Dance coming up next week, I'm posting a few
fun movie dance scenes to put us all in the mood! Here's Danny and
Vera dancing it up in White Christmas. This is going to be so fun,
because we can all dance like this in cyberspace! I'm going to be out
today cyber shopping for my new gown! Ta-ta!!

  1. Hello Willow !
The cyber is often dangerous... It's not the reality...

    Good shopping !
    See You later.

  2. This was so much fun to watch! This movie always means Christmas to me. It's a tradition that I watch it as I make the first batch of fudge!

  3. I love that movie! Vera Ellen seemed as though she was connected with rubber bands. Or maybe she had no bones and was merely cartilage.

  4. Pamela, me too! A beloved Christmas tradition at the Manor. The holidays just wouldn't be the same without it.

Jennifer, yes, I agree! Cartilage and rubber bands. And she needed a little meat on that cartilage. She looks like a Barbie doll! ;)

  6. I totally agree with brush with colour. They don't make them like that anymore. There was a time when a look in an actor's eyes, the way they held their cigarettes (pre-H&S times), or they way they pushed their hair out of their eyes. All this meant something. There was a particular meaning to the actions and mannerisms. The same with the dance. This is one of my favourite dance scenes and sadly I have not seen the movie for donkey years now. The same with 'Seven Brides for Seven Brothers' and 'An American in Paris' (mind you, I did update a clip the other day of Leslie Caron in full regalia being led around the dance by the ever gentle Gene Kelly). I love 'Cabaret' for its mix of bragadoccio and camp, and 'Singing in the Rain' (again, Kelly) is the must-see movie for me year in year out. I can't wait for your cyber-dance. I have writen the date on my cyber-diary and will do my best to attend the event.

    Greetings from London.

  7. "The best things.......happen while you're dancing........" Our family loves that movie. White Christmas is our all time favorite Christmas movie. Danny Kaye was fantastic in his role. What a tallent he was. Thanks for the clip. .....and vera ellen's waistline? Yeow that's small.

  8. Wonderful stuff, and to think they don't make movies like this any more. Now I have to wait until December rolls around to get in the mood for the festivities. That was alot of fun, Willow. Thanks!

  10. Now that's a twirl around the floor! Their feet barely touch the ground. What a wonderful movie - one of my favourites no matter what the season.

Could she have a smaller build? In one of their moves, his hand looks like it is encircling her entire waist...

Hope you had a successful shopping spree!

  15. I'm still trying to decide who my escort will be. I've narrowed it down to Cary Grant and Clark Gable.

  16. One of my ALL TIME FAVORITE dance scenes! That was back in the day when an entertainer had to be able to do it all--sing, dance, & act. And Danny Kaye, what a talent! Did you know that Vera Ellen was anorexic? It's what forced her retirement in 1957. Sad but true.

  17. Willow, White Christmas is a great movie - one of my favorites. I was walking through Macy's yesterday and shocked to see that hey had their Christmas shop open, decorated trees and all. Shame on them!

Can't wait to see the Dance.

  18. Willow, as for Mapplethorpe, I agree. His work, the nudes, are not my cup of tea, but I love some of his flower compositions. I wonder in what directions he would have moved were he to have lived longer.

  19. Oh! I love this bit! "The best things...happen when you're dancing..."

Danny Kaye was absolutely marvelous right down to his cool grey shoes! Vera Ellen was sooo slender - here waist was like the abdomen of a wasp, wasn't she? I can't wait for Christmas now!

  21. Oh I'm all of a twirl. I have my shoes and stole ready, no dress yet though. And my escort? I would have had Anthony Hopkins but he's taken. Damn. I'll have to ask him soon or it'll be too late.

    xx
