deciding between Cary Grant and Clark Gable, who are both trying to
persuade her to be their date for the Manor Ball. Go pay her a visit and
give her some advice! Alas, I am in the same dilemma with these two
gentlemen! They've both been calling all morning and I am leaning
toward Sir Anthony, but I certainly don't want to hurt Mr. Connery's
feelings. Oh, what is a girl to do?
Yesterday, I had much success at Christie's auction house bidding on
a fabulous gown. It miraculously fits me perfectly and can't wait to whirl
around the dance floor in it! It's to absolutely die for!!

Now I understand why Sir Anthony has not called me back yet! Rascal.

hello willow, i've stopped by from ces' blog. i can't resist my two cents that i've seen mr. connery interviewed a couple of times, and i don't think you would find him a gracious escort. he struck me as offensive and quite condoning to women, including his opinion that a slap now and then is appropriate. sir anthony, on the other hand, would be on my short list also

Did you know that same tango was used in "True Lies"? That's a great dance scene as well!
If you have any doubts about choosing Sir Anthony, just remember the way his character in The Remains of the Day looked at the Emma Thompson character when she was trying to pry that book out of his hands -- love, lust, tenderness, respect, and complete adoration all wrapped up together in that one glance. It is impossible to go wrong with a man who is capable of looking at a woman like that.

Oh this is too funny! I wrote up my post for Tuesday's Dance yesterday and I said that a certain celebrity gentlemen had called and invited me to Willow Manor instead of me asking him! Apparantly we've all thought it would be much more fun to have the moviestars falling at our feet and begging us to be their dates! tee-hee....alas, however, I have only had one and not two men asking be for the big date! :) I guess it makes the decision a much easier one! tee-hee!

ReplyDeleteAnd I apologise beforehand for introducing a note of discord in the forum. I saw 'Scent of Woman' when it first came out and I thought it was good, but I felt cheated, nonetheless. The problem for me was that I had already seen the original Italian movie from 1974 when I was scarcely seven or eight years old (in 1979 or 1980). I sneaked into the cinema with my Dad who was a member of Havana's Cinematheque (the movie was not for minors) and I sat there mesmerised by the performance of the only and unique Vittorio Gassman (yes, including those parts, too!). When we came out of the theatre I remember turning towards my father and asking him: 'Dad, was that man really blind?' Years later I watched it again with a then girlfriend and it helped us patch us our differences. The movie is a beauty and I recommend it to anyone who's interested in Italian cinema. Al Pacino's version was not bad and Al is obviously AL! You know, he is one of the greatest actors alive! But to me the script was a bit over the top and there are so many explanations, whereas the original allowed the camera to do the talking. However, saying that (or writing that, rather) I would include that dance scene in the ball because it's one my favourite moments from the film and both Al and Gabrielle Anwar look so dapper and dashing!

I hate to do this, but when I see this clip I am compelled as a hardcore Argentine tango dancer to offer an alternative.
ReplyDeleteThis clip below is a much better and truly authentic tango, from Saura's movie "Tango." I was lucky enough to dance in this place when I went to Buenos Aires, and never cleaned the dust from the marble floor off my dancing shoes.

Tangobaby, I knew you wouldn't be able to resist! Haha! I know this clip probably wouldn't even be catagorized as a "real" tango. I just think it's sweet because of the context of the film.
