I just visited Maurita and apparently she is having a very difficult time
deciding between Cary Grant and Clark Gable, who are both trying to
persuade her to be their date for the Manor Ball. Go pay her a visit and
give her some advice! Alas, I am in the same dilemma with these two
gentlemen! They've both been calling all morning and I am leaning
toward Sir Anthony, but I certainly don't want to hurt Mr. Connery's
feelings. Oh, what is a girl to do?

Yesterday, I had much success at Christie's auction house bidding on
a fabulous gown. It miraculously fits me perfectly and can't wait to whirl
around the dance floor in it! It's to absolutely die for!!

Here's another favorite film dance scene, just to keep you in the spirit!

  1. Now I understand why Sir Anthony has not called me back yet! Rascal.

  2. Darling, you can never go wrong with Mr. Connery. But Sir Anthony IS practically royalty. I can understand your dilemma!

Can't wait to see your new gown.

  3. hello willow, i've stopped by from ces' blog. i can't resist my two cents that i've seen mr. connery interviewed a couple of times, and i don't think you would find him a gracious escort. he struck me as offensive and quite condoning to women, including his opinion that a slap now and then is appropriate. sir anthony, on the other hand, would be on my short list also

    :)

  6. Anthony Hopkins, darling...OMG!!!

    AND I LOVE THIS SCENE!!

Did you know that same tango was used in "True Lies"? That's a great dance scene as well!

  7. If you have any doubts about choosing Sir Anthony, just remember the way his character in The Remains of the Day looked at the Emma Thompson character when she was trying to pry that book out of his hands -- love, lust, tenderness, respect, and complete adoration all wrapped up together in that one glance. It is impossible to go wrong with a man who is capable of looking at a woman like that.

  8. Sir Anthony by a mile. No contest.

Thanks for the visit and nice comment,
    Troy

  9. Willow, I hate for you to have to suffer through such a dilemma! If you are leaning towards Sir Anthony, I'll be delighted to take Mr. Connery off your phone and your hands. Still looking for that perfect gown!

  10. I always find a difficult man quite the challenge.

Mr. Sean Connery would be my choice.

  11. hands down sean would be my pick between these 2. sorry but i can't shake sir anthony as hannibal lecter. fun post! will we get to see a pic of you in the ball gown???

  12. I've had a call from a dear friend who heard of your ball and has asked to accompany me. I must rush now, I've got to shop. Does anyone know where I can purchase glass slippers?

ps Sean would get my vote!

  13. Who says you have to make a choice? A dance card has many openings... :)I am sure both of them would be delighted to accompany the Lady of the Manor!

  16. Oh, man--what to do, what to do!? I think you can't go wrong either way here. I'll be anxiously awaiting that dress! You're truly getting into this! LOL

  17. I missed so much. I did not know there was a dance on october 1st and I have a project implementation. Oh sap! I see the resemblance with Yul. I always liked him as Taras Bulba.

  18. I hope my own date isn't double dating. He said he would not but men can be fickle...
Can't wait to see the gown.

  19. Ah Sean......Mr Bond himself.
Although after reading what KJ said about his interviews i'm not so sure i like the sound of the man in the flesh. Maybe you should go for Mr Hopkins instead, although i have to agree with Julie, i just can't forget him as Hannibal Lecter!
That hasn't really helped your decission has it, sorry.
I'm still having trouble finding the perfect dress! I'll go shopping first thing tomorrow morning :-)x

  20. Oh this is too funny! I wrote up my post for Tuesday's Dance yesterday and I said that a certain celebrity gentlemen had called and invited me to Willow Manor instead of me asking him! Apparantly we've all thought it would be much more fun to have the moviestars falling at our feet and begging us to be their dates! tee-hee....alas, however, I have only had one and not two men asking be for the big date! :) I guess it makes the decision a much easier one! tee-hee!

  21. Willow!!! Help!!! 'haven't a stitch to wear! You know the fire consumed ALL my ball gowns, and there were some beauties there. I'll have to put my head down and start drawing..You don't give a girl much time, and I only wear originals.
..and the worry of choosing a partner..I'm leaning towards Misha, after all, HE can DANCE, or maybe Antonio..but there are other hats in the ring...decisions, decisions......

  22. Willow, Like most men I'm not much of a dancer but I do love the way you've thrown yourself into this project. I do see you as a Connery sort and think that he would be perfect.

  23. And you honestly mean to say that after posting this charming video you aren't even considering Mr. Pacino??

  24. In respect of Anthony vs Connery, or the Welsh vs the Scot, I would go for the Welsh, hands down!

And I apologise beforehand for introducing a note of discord in the forum. I saw 'Scent of Woman' when it first came out and I thought it was good, but I felt cheated, nonetheless. The problem for me was that I had already seen the original Italian movie from 1974 when I was scarcely seven or eight years old (in 1979 or 1980). I sneaked into the cinema with my Dad who was a member of Havana's Cinematheque (the movie was not for minors) and I sat there mesmerised by the performance of the only and unique Vittorio Gassman (yes, including those parts, too!). When we came out of the theatre I remember turning towards my father and asking him: 'Dad, was that man really blind?' Years later I watched it again with a then girlfriend and it helped us patch us our differences. The movie is a beauty and I recommend it to anyone who's interested in Italian cinema. Al Pacino's version was not bad and Al is obviously AL! You know, he is one of the greatest actors alive! But to me the script was a bit over the top and there are so many explanations, whereas the original allowed the camera to do the talking. However, saying that (or writing that, rather) I would include that dance scene in the ball because it's one my favourite moments from the film and both Al and Gabrielle Anwar look so dapper and dashing!

And here's a link to the original Italian film. It's in Italian with no subtitles.

  25. I hate to do this, but when I see this clip I am compelled as a hardcore Argentine tango dancer to offer an alternative.

This clip below is a much better and truly authentic tango, from Saura's movie "Tango." I was lucky enough to dance in this place when I went to Buenos Aires, and never cleaned the dust from the marble floor off my dancing shoes.

I hope when you see this you will understand more about the heart of tango (ps. and Juan Carlos Copes is still alive and dancing and may like to attend your ball):

  26. Tangobaby, I knew you wouldn't be able to resist! Haha! I know this clip probably wouldn't even be catagorized as a "real" tango. I just think it's sweet because of the context of the film.

What do you think of the "Roxanne" dance scene from Moulin Rouge? I'd like to know what a real tango dancer thinks! ;)

  27. I love Scent of a Woman and Al Pacino is now looming large on my list. Oh and then there's Andy Garcia and Johnny Depp. So gorgeous I'd probably tread on his feet.
    Decisions decisions.

  28. Yep, I took the bait, hook, line and sinker.

Before I answer your question, watch the clip I have you and then I think you might know my reply.

    ;-)

  29. Sean Connery is my kind of man. But, George Peppard has the same appeal.

Thanks for visiting my blog and the link!

  30. Tangobaby, okay...yes...I see exactly what you mean!! I just called Juan Carlos Copes and he agreed to come. You must tango with him! :)

  31. If you are absolutely certain that you don't want Mr Connery, do you think he might like to accompany me, if I am invited that is? But then again, what would I wear, I suppose my dog walking trousers would be out of the question?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Acorn, I would be more than happy to have you accompany Mr. Connery to the ball. I believe he was a bit crushed when I chose Sir Anthony over him. I know he would be so delighted!!
