Why does the rain make us feel so romantic and strange? Maybe it's the fact that we are unnatural spectators of it, from inside our homes, and it is a reminder that we have the power to live our whole lives like this, if we choose. It's not the smell of fertile ground kicked up by raindrops, or the slick leaves, or the way we must amplify our voices to be heard over this larger presence. It's the power of the rooftop that makes us want to fuck under it.

Well, that wound up with a different conclusion than I was expecting! But, then tat's what I like about your blog... We are desperate for rain in the Hudson River Valley, and I long to hear it on the roof of my house -- for any number ofreasons! ReggieReplyDelete
It is pouring here and that quote is perfect.ReplyDelete
Stunning rainy day picture!ReplyDelete
Raining here too and the dog and I are very wet!
Rain on the rooftop will never be quite the same from now on!ReplyDelete
and the power of dripping trees! stevenReplyDelete
It's been raining for several days up here. Today I put on my storm suit and went for a walk in the downpour. Over to have tea with a friend. It was delightful adventure.ReplyDelete
I just abolished a poem from my mind. The one that starts "Rain, rain, go away."ReplyDelete
Rain is a good thing...ReplyDelete
I see what you mean!ReplyDelete
I agree with her totally; except that I don't really like rain, other than at night when it makes the most soporific sound above my head.

Ah yes, that elemental surprise we feel, from getting wet.ReplyDelete
Haha! Great quote. I hope for Amelia that she lives in a very rainy part of the world, proving she'd be one happy woman I'd say!ReplyDelete
Sorry but the way the rain is falling here in the UK at present does not make me feel in the least romantic Willow. I would like some warm sunshine so that I could lie in the grass among the cowslips and cuckoo flowers - that sounds a much better way to make love!ReplyDelete
HaHa!! One of my best memories is of a night in a tiny metal roofed cabin in the Adirondacks during a furious thunderstorm...I will leave it to your imagination!ReplyDelete
That's a lovely photo, Willow! Ah, yes, the simple embrace of rain--it captures one's senses in the most delicate of ways when waking up to it in the morning. that is exactly what I had happen this am, having opened up my one window (in entire flat) for first time leaving it open at night and actually being able to smell that and hear birds as i woke up early. Ahhh. Yes, no window in my bedroom.ReplyDelete
Rain on the roof of the old caravan when we are snuggled up in blankets and the gas lamp has formed a fug of warmth and cosiness....gemutlichkeit!ReplyDelete
Dude, I totally agree with this... in the SUMMERTIME.ReplyDelete
Right now, with the days on end of the chilly, the damp, the cold, and did I mention chilly and damp? Ugh. I just want to stay in my robe, watch "Withnail & I" and drink wine. All day.
