R.A.D. Stainforth has the sniffles...
It's good to eat
when you have
the sniffles.
Your head is a bowling ball,
but go ahead, gorge
on chicken soup
and copious whiskey.
Lay it on a pillow,
stuff tissue in the nostrils;
call yourself
Princess Vanilla,
even though you don't look it.
As for starving a fever,
it's a little too risky ―
you always prove
deliciously beneficial.
when you have
the sniffles.
Your head is a bowling ball,
but go ahead, gorge
on chicken soup
and copious whiskey.
Lay it on a pillow,
stuff tissue in the nostrils;
call yourself
Princess Vanilla,
even though you don't look it.
As for starving a fever,
it's a little too risky ―
you always prove
deliciously beneficial.

ReplyDeleteLimoncello from the bottle works wonders.
ReplyDeletewise and poetic words
ReplyDeleteMedicative words of wellness. I, too am coughing and wheezing. I have found that "Sleepy Time" tea and some Nyquil help me to sleep.
ReplyDeleteSorry for colds- excuse me while I run away-thanks for the suggestions!

ReplyDeleteVanilla and whiskey, a combination of magic. To your health!
ReplyDelete"call yourself
ReplyDeletePrincess Vanilla,
even though you don't look it." I love this, may as well think nice thoughts even when unwell.
Never before have I heard of a cold sounding so good, until now!
ReplyDeleteAre those flu shoots ready yet? The flu will be gone before they ever get pushing those needles! In the meantime, I love your remedies here, Tess. Copious Whiskey and sleeping like a princess suits me fine. Thank you for sharing this timely alternative to flu shots. =D

I personally like whiskey, lemon juice and honey.
ReplyDeleteWonderful poem. As always, you place the bar high.
:) Love how food, drink and colourful advice always merge into the poetics of Tess Kincaid. Copious whiskey might be a little beyond me... but if the Lady of the Manor suggests it...
ReplyDeleteJust how does one know the doctor you call womt be just another pesky Vampire ?
ReplyDeleteCopious whiskey is always a good Rx. How fun!
ReplyDeleteThis Dr Mom says ... a nightcap of hot water, whiskey, lemon juice and a sprinkle of confectioner's sugar. "Down the Hatch, and straight to bed!", as MY mother used to say ...
ReplyDeleteBecause of you Tess. I will make chicken soup from one of the free range chickens we sell in our little farm store. And when I am done I will force my husband to eat it and listen to my poetry. Life is food.
ReplyDeleteHa! Very cute. She definitely has a certain glint in the eye. As does your poem. k.
ReplyDeleteI love this line: "call yourself Princess Vanilla" Big smiles for this! :) ... You write things like this just to mess with him, don't you? ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit twisted, so I actually pictured him removing his head and placing it, severed, on the pillow with his hands. That's what I feel like doing when I have a cold.
Nice touch of fever at the end, taking this in a different direction.
it has to be the angle of the cigarette. somewhere arc tangent of inhale over exhale is a coefficient of awesome. what...im in calc
ReplyDeleteOh, feed everything..starving is bad for the spirit! Speaking of spirits...cheers!!
ReplyDeleteRead this to the Professor this weekend...well, RAD did. Made him smile and I think he's a bit better. This could be the cure for the common cold! He wanted to know who Princess Vanilla is:) Hope you all feel better soon. I'll be preparing whiskey tonight, just in case I succumb :)
ReplyDeleteYou make a cold almost desirable....love this Tess! :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat take on the prompt and the use of home cold remedies!
ReplyDeleteGood grief: I just went through that and made do with oranges and mint tea.
ReplyDeleteNot being a fan of whisky - I will do without it...but will find something to take its place...
ReplyDeleteAnna :o]
Very wise! Being Jewish, I make the best chicken soup. A guaranteed cure! And now I will call myself "Princess Vanilla" as well!
ReplyDeleteWhiskey and vanilla... I think she will be feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteGiving up on soup, bring the whiskey...
