No hawk hangs over in this air:
The urgent snow is everywhere.
The wing adroiter than a sail
Must lean away from such a gale,
Abandoning its straight intent,
Or else expose tough ligament
And tender flesh to what before
Meant dampened feathers, nothing more.
Forceless upon our backs there fall
Infrequent flakes hexagonal,
Devised in many a curious style
To charm our safety for a while,
Where close to earth like mice we go
Under the horizontal snow.

Love the poem. So far we see Red Tail Hawks, but no snow. How lucky you are to get it so early. Happy Holidays.
ReplyDeleteYour neck of the woods is beautiful. A winter wonderland!
ReplyDeleteAnd more snow is on the way! It's supposed to stay below freezing through the holidays, so it looks like we will have a white Christmas at Willow Manor!
ReplyDeleteYou captured the mystique of snow in these picts, what beauty, as is the pairing with the Millay poem. After wandering around Edinburgh in drifts for 5 days earlier this week, I can't say I love snow, but I did gain a deeper appreciation for it.
ReplyDeleteno snow here in New Hampshire...not yet, but oh how it is raining.
ReplyDeleteamazing photos, paired with perfect words
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and a super poem. Thankyou.
ReplyDeleteHow wondrous, love the b&w , the poem.
ReplyDeleteWe are awaiting our first real storm, but so far today it's been pouring .
soon enough.
Nice images and words, Tess. We're promised more of the white stuff, later in the week. It may well hang around for the big day.
ReplyDeleteWaaaaaaaah! I want that snow! (Any cheese to go with my whine?)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots, Tess.
Willow,
ReplyDeleteSimply
Beautiful.
Oh, and elegant too!

Dear Willow, A beautiful poem which has captured the quiet stillness of a landscape clothed in snow. How magical your garden looks under its white duvet!!
ReplyDeleteTruly a winter wonderland. Perfect poem as well.
ReplyDeleteThe poem and your pics, are really nice. That "urgent snow", seems brilliant to me, nice choice.
ReplyDeleteExquisite words and images!
ReplyDeleteoh man willow and edna and wintry woods. soft bliss! steven
ReplyDeleteOh how dreamy...the poem and the photos!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! And Edna wonderful, as always.
ReplyDeleteWe too are covered in snow.
A lovely poem , most evocatively illustrating your winter wonderland.
ReplyDeleteStay warm in those woolly socks my friend.
Arija, the woolly socks are on. Followed up with woolly slippers!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing a Willow Winter WOnderland! Simply beautiful, my dear! :) The Bach

Edna St. Vincent Millay's poem a master craft creation: Your photos: More beautiful than words...

God, that's so beautiful. All of it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful picture. LOTS of snow.
ReplyDeleteLucky, lucky girl!!!
ReplyDeleteyour neck of the woods is beautiful--we are getting lots of rain --the cold will come tomorrow--hope you made something yummy, put on your best woolly socks and enjoyed a good book or movie--cheers!
ReplyDeleteI love that last picture...absolutely beautiful. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas : )
ReplyDeleteA Peregrine Falcon dropped by for a brief visit a few days ago. Major panic in the yard, particularly around our bird feeder. Came to naught for the Falcon.
ReplyDeleteYour place looks much like the bush close to our spot. Snowing again tonight, -17°C (wind chill -28°C, or -18°F). A bit fresh outside tonight, but very cozy inside. White Christmas, indeed.
Enjoyed the poem.
Ah, Edna is the best, isn't she? I never tire of her elegant expressions. Your photos to go with are elegant, too.
ReplyDeleteOh, man--you guys have gotten pummelled already, and I hear more is on the way. It's pretty, but I hope you're stocked up and can stay hunkered down! Lovely, Tess.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is the time of year when snow is wonderful, comforting and beautiful because we are not yet tired of it. Gorgeous photos, and I loved the Millay. Your snowstorm has brightened a day full of rain. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWillow T,
ReplyDeleteEdna understands.

Beautiful photos! We had snow around Thanksgiving but it's been raining and melting. I hope we have a little more, just for Christmas. That last photo is amazing, peaceful yet moody at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThere is such calm and peace in the last photo of tree and patio and chairs and table. Serenity is in my life now as never before and things like photos that depict peace are even more meaningful to me.
ReplyDeleteThat photo of Willow Manor is just plain magical!!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS photos, and words!
ReplyDelete1st shot is a stunner.
Very atmospheric renderings of snow in words and pictures, Tess.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful and haunting images, very foreign to me. We were looking for some shade to park the car in yesterday because it was a bit too warm outside.
ReplyDeleteWe had escaped the storm until last night. Not quite as much as the midwest, but a lovely dusting that rings in the season. Wonderful poem and great photos.
ReplyDeletelovely poem and your shots of the manor are beautiful!
ReplyDeletenow snow here in CT, yet...
Tess -- I like the drama you create using the black and white photos of your snow and water droplets. Also, your new header is beautiful -- barbara
ReplyDeleteThank you! This is perfect, timely. Two woolly socks UP.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are full of magic!
ReplyDeleteI thought of you last evening .. music from the 30's and 40's was featured during our public TV pledge drive show. The best of times .... the best of music.
A light dusting is all Springfield displays. However, I think with the cold we are having more could be on the way. Your photos are worthy a calendar or Christmas card and the poem is the perfect accompaniment.
ReplyDeletebeautiful.
ReplyDeleteYou really HAVE got snow. It's making news here. I love the photo overlooking the table and chairs.
ReplyDeletegorgeous !!
ReplyDeleteall of it xo S & les Gang
stunning words and oh so evocative images.......always a pleasure to drop by the manor, ms. kincaid!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I dislike snow here
ReplyDeleteon the many hills of home,
seeing it through your eyes,
one does appreciate the beauty.
Happy that you have you white
blanket of joy at last. And for
sure, not having to commute
to work in the stuff, I can
appreciate the esthetics
somewhat more this year.
Fantastic pictures, Tess.
