Chocolate Corpse

Time to move on
from the pralines
and sprinkles.
I've had my fill
of peanut brittle
and fudge.
Which means
my little wrap
of holiday pudge
is pushing
on buttons till
it tingles, and it
tastes like crap.
How could I ever
say no to Godiva?
I'm kinda
resembling a
a chocolate corpse.
Please,
no more torts.
Give me
the crunch
of a bunch
of fresh celery.

I feel this! Gym Monday, water to drink, writing to do, no more junk, mental or physical. Wish me luck!
ReplyDeletewillow i've not ridden my bike in three weeks and i've eaten for two for that same period of time so there's the softest most tender little pudge billowing over my waistband and even though it's fun to squeeze and even more fun to add to, i'm with you. the feasting must end soon!!!! i'll wish each of us good luck with this one!!! have a great evening at the manor. steven
ReplyDeleteAmen sister. I just tossed the last box of See's candy in the trash. It was empty of course, but I am done.
ReplyDeleteFun poem. I like your diction and how the words seem to trip down the screen.
ReplyDeleteoh, i feel the same...will be nice to return home tomorrow to my home...with my fam..and a nice carrot or two...
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing because I just finished my first yoga session of the new year and feeling the burn of those places I haven't stretched in too long!
ReplyDeleteGodiva, I'm kinda?! Yer killin me! Love it. Are you submitting your work anywhere? If not, you sure should.
ReplyDeleteHahaaa! Bravo. Love it, Willow. I think we're all feeling about the same. I brought in the New Year today having brunch with friends, and finally a sliver of pie, topped off with a scrumptious serving of Haagen-Dazs dulce de leche. I highly recommend breaking in a new decade in this fashion, but tomorrow it's fresh fruits and veggies. It's all about that balance. Happy 2010!
ReplyDeleteWillow,
ReplyDeleteAin't it the truth? LOL.

Even though my pants are getting too tight and I should toss the rest of the sweets before I end up eating them, I give myself till my birthday in mid-January to gorge.
ReplyDeleteI HAVE been to the gym on a regular schedule, though.
I had the same thoughts as I was finishing off the box of Cadbury's chocolate biscuits today.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, not quite as eloquently put, in prose ;0
So true, so true...time to move on to bigger and better things. But, maybe not that celery....
ReplyDeleteI have eaten veggies all day and part of HH salad at dinner. Can't seem to get enough crunchies of the veggie sort. Loved the poem. Very artistic.
ReplyDeleteQMM
QMM, I must be totally out of it. What in the world is a HH salad?
ReplyDeleteSteven, my dear, I can't believe you have an ounce of pudge over that little waistband of yours!
ReplyDeleteAh, Sue, Haagen-Dazs dulce de leche is one of my very favorites, next to Graeter's raspberry chocolate chip, that is. It even sounds good, as I sit here stuffed to the gizzard with chocolate cake!
ReplyDeleteI'm craving a huge Chef's Salad with the works. And after all that eggnog, red wine and champagne, I'm living on San Pellegrino!
ReplyDeleteOh, Steph, me, too. I've gotta go load up at the grocery produce section!
ReplyDeleteOh, yeah... I could use some raw veges with a grapefruit juice chaser about now.
ReplyDeleteWhy do the good things want to kill us? I can eat my vegetables if I must, but prefer them with twice their weight in cheese. That, and perhaps some bacon. No, a bit more bacon, please!
ReplyDeleteMike
My sentiments exactly! Wish I loved carrots and celery as much as I love truffles though. Delightful poem, Willow.
ReplyDeleteAs we always say around here -- we'd better eat this up quick and get rid of it before it can make us fatter.
ReplyDeleteCelery -- what a delicious, crunchy idea! And lots of water and perhaps, as a sweet treat, a carrot!
Exactly!
ReplyDeleteYou writing is so good. Thanks for stopping by my Sepia a couple of weeks ago. I was busy munching on pretzels dipped in chocolate and fudge.
ReplyDeleteI'm there too...bring on a salad with extra tomatoes...not one more piece of Divinity for me!
ReplyDeleteAs I am still munching on chocolate myself (I'm a fan of any combination of chocolate and peppermint...) and am feeling rather like a chocolate corpse myself:)
ReplyDeleteLove the poem!
Now you tell us! Can't we postpone the renouncing until Lent?
ReplyDeleteLove the bon mots.
Happy Resolutions to you too.
Lakeviewer, I don't really consider this a New Year's resolution, so to speak. It's more of a switching gears from the holiday eating patterns. And by Jan. 1, I am SO ready! :^)
ReplyDeleteHere, here! But I have to finish the Turkish Delight!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Now there is a poem that I truly understand! haha
ReplyDeleteYes, the "extra layer" that makes itself known every year with tighter pants (and a harder time zipping up my boots!) ... but it was worth it, no? Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteWillow,
ReplyDeleteI am with you. I started behaving right after Thanksgiving and have lost and kept off 15 lbs.... I even cheated a little on Christmas... you can do it if your heart is in it....
Ron
Oh my gosh, I can see it in my KNEES of all places! HA! I'm serious. I was planning on wearing a short(ish) skirt yesterday and my knees looked chunky!
ReplyDeleteI will share your celery with you, and give you some carrots and cauliflower to boot. :)
Mega Life Salad from the ReFresh cook book, from the Toronto restaurant, Fresh. My absolute favorite!
ReplyDeleteLOL oh I feel your pain and I still have a Mother Hubbard full of candy! I keep donating it to all comers, but they seem as candied out as I am!
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. Caloric restriction has commenced. No refined sugar consumed intentionally in 6 days. Mood without chocolate: tenuous.
ReplyDeletemy hope was that I could zip my jeans after a month of fudge - barely!
ReplyDeleteNothing exceeds like excess.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for 2010.
Chocolate-covered celery!
ReplyDeleteYep, back on the celery and carrots. Okay, there is the onion dip but I made it with non-fat, Greek yogurt so it tasted sinful but wasn't. Thank goddess I kept up with the Pilates during the holidays even though it was hard to make class.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to all at Willow Manor!
ReplyDeleteGosh I wonder if you had read my mind when I looked at this!! :)
ReplyDeleteJust mooching through blogs and stumbled across your lovely one!
Blessings for 2010!
Isn't it amazing how too much of one thing gets so non-irresistable after a while !!
ReplyDeletegreat expressional poem.
Could not agree more! Yesterday we went to Mexican restaurant. We have maxed out on holiday food and I see soup on the horizon for many weeks to come! THAT is a great poem!
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments exactly but your chocolate cake does look tempting.
ReplyDeleteAh yes, it will soon be time to put aside the holiday chocolate--of course, since Eberle is Catholic, we celebrate Christmas on her schedule, which takes us to 1/6, so we have a few more days of feasting left (for better or worse)!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have resume the pursuit of weight loss, I avoid raw celery-I hate stringy stuff. I do like it cooked in stews, stirfries, and soups.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a few more bulges will deflate!
I can defeinetely relate. I was just discussing healthy substitutes for my food vices last night. Willpower!!!
ReplyDeleteOr I should have said Willowpower : )
ReplyDeleteGreat poem, by the way.
Must confess..just melted some chocolate in my coffee..don't read this!!
ReplyDeleteBut...all fresh fruit today..I promise!!
wonderful, just the nudge i needed to tackle taking down the tree...yes, it is over....
ReplyDeletetime to move on is right....sad to see it go..we sure had a good time....
looking forward to 2010 with you, dear friend, you are an inspiration..
Love,
Kary
xxx
well this certainly hits home!!
ReplyDeletebrilliant - pass the celery!
Grazing through the house- a jesus fetus cookie here a turdy brownie there and multiple gobs of turkish delight I came across a large red bell pepper! Curious, I ate the entire thing in two bites- delicious crunchy vegetable fresh- how novel! Like Steven I have an entertaining blub around the middle that is fun to poke and jiggle but , really, must go...
ReplyDeleteLOVE the level banner!!!
Well, now I want to go out & find some chocolate - strangely I've had too little this holiday season. Don't worry, I replaced it with quite a bit of OTHER holiday goodies...
ReplyDeleteI just put the rest of the fudge into the garbage disposal. So I can totally relate to how you (and everyone) must be feeling.
ReplyDeleteLove how you put your thoughts into poetry.
a fun poem, plays on words such as "till it tingles" which sounds like a Christmas song.
ReplyDeleteA chocolate corpse... I do not think I can ever see a body the same way ever again.
ReplyDeleteYou have forever changed my viewpoint with that line.

ReplyDeleteI think your sister contributed to my holiday bulge with the peanut clusters. But they were sooooo good.
ReplyDeleteI have to echo Tracey: Amen, sister, amen!
ReplyDeleteNow you're making me feel guilty, as I'm munching on the Whitman's Sampler I bought myself as a present...
ReplyDeleteYes. I agree!! I am starting tomorrow. Tonight I will clean out the fridge, stuffing as much as I can in my mouth.
ReplyDeleteWillow, yikes.. reality sets in! :)Tomorrow I start walking at the mall on my lunch break. Great poem! Goodbye to sweets and for me "breads"... will I make it? I must! The Bach
ReplyDeletei can stop anytime...tommorrow is soon enough. Besides, the Christmas tree box is still using the treadmill; my it must be awefully fit by now! terriffic poem!
ReplyDeleteKeep posting stuff like this i really like it.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm slowly moving to crunch but not made it to celery yet although i have been crunching on Pringles chips--does that count? :)
ReplyDeleteMe, too! Veggies never sounded so good!
ReplyDeleteI threw out some cookies this morning -- and the last of the mince pies yesterday. Thank goodness that life loves contrast, though. I love to cook and feast . . . and then I voluntarily and delightedly reach for oranges and celery.
ReplyDeleteAn apt poem for the post-season. (But, oh my does that chocolate cake look good.)
Bee, that was the best chocolate cake I've ever made. I've tweaked the recipe until it is just perfect...dense, dark and moist. Heaven, actually. But, now, on to the celery...
ReplyDeleteIf you've got any more of those chocolate corpses left I'll take three.
