.
Make me a willow cabin at your gate,
And call upon my soul within the house;
Write loyal cantons of contemned love
And sing them loud even in the dead of night;
Halloo your name to the reverberate hills
And make the babbling gossip of the air
Cry out 'Olivia!' O, You should not rest
Between the elements of air and earth,
But you should pity me!

I do love this painting and such an apt quote.
ReplyDeleteThe painting is gorgeous & the verse is fun. We still have summer--90 degrees & very smoky.
ReplyDeletehi willow, the painting made my heart jump - i'd so love to live there. it'd be cold as a cat's curse some days with the wind and all but worth it for the views and the sounds and the smells. beautiful post willow. have a lovely evening at the manor. steven
ReplyDeleteSeems I can never digest Shakespeare except in little bits. Then I can understand the beauty of the words. Really lovely, Willow. And the painting does speak of summer's end.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting and verse. The painting reminds me of the view out of my homme office window. We live on Lake Conroe. I'll post a photo on my blog tomorrow. Drop by for coffee and pear preserves!
ReplyDeleteOkay. That last post is why I am ADDICTED to reading blogs.
ReplyDeleteStunningly beautiful.
Well, it took me reading 3 comments before I realized that it was a painting! haha! I thought it was a photo. I guess I should have read the caption!
ReplyDeleteLove the quote -- that man sure could write!
ReplyDeleteWillow--Loved reading some of the postings that I have been unable to see since my "illness" but I think that I am coming back to life. I loved that painting too. I guess I need to order Netflix so that that I can watch some of your recommendations. They sound great. Hope you have a really great weekend. We, too, are still warm here and wishing I could have a bit (just a bit) of your rain.
ReplyDeleteI loved these lines:
ReplyDeleteHalloo your name to the reverberate hills
And make the babbling gossip of the air
Reverberate hills. Wonderful.
such a nice painting, like a siren calling me nearer to sit and rest a bit under those tall, tall trees.
ReplyDelete"I would applaud thee to the very echo."-Macbeth, actV sceneIII
ReplyDeleteAnd the final day closes on the summer. Bring on the autumn! Good one, Willow :)
Summer's hanging on here - at least in terms of temperature; eighty eight degrees! I mowed lawn (and pecan leaves) all day.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely painting - the light definitely recalls the slanting light of September. And such an apropos "willowesque" bit of poetry.
I love your ever-changing imagery.
The painting reminds me of my Aunt Martha. She had trees in her backyard that sat in front of a sunset sky. She called it her "black lace sky."
ReplyDeleteToday was the first "autumny" day here. Thanks for the reminding me to think of Aunt Martha during a time of year she loved.
September - tis the best month.
ReplyDeleteSigh....goodbye summer...
ReplyDeleteLovely photo and classic quote!
A very appropriate goodbye Willow...Have a wonderful weekend, xv.
ReplyDeleteWOW WILLOW this Bill is good. Nice poem. He will be famous.
ReplyDeleteWe are trying to scoot Summer out the door, but she insists on lingering here in the south. Her heat has worn out it's welcome. I also loved the painting. It looks so peaceful and serene.
ReplyDeleteWow! I nearly made a right fool of myself; more than usual that is.
ReplyDeleteI saw the picture; I thought: what a lovely photograph you've taken again.
Then the poetry: how beautiful, and I'd learned a new word (to me that is): contemned. I thought you might have meant condemned.
So, I was going to praise your photography and your poetry! It proves you should always read the small print!
I can, and do, praise your post!!!
Such exquisite words and that painting is beyond wonderful. I love sea cottages. xx
ReplyDeleteEvery speech a free standing poem. And, yes, what a beautiful painting.
ReplyDeleteThe blues of that painting seem infinite. And the little cottage seems to have gathered all the light to itself. A wonderful painting!
ReplyDeleteI'd move into that cottage in a beat!
ReplyDeleteHello Willow,
ReplyDeleteWonderful post, yes! I Love the painting, especially the trees. The verse is great too and like PhilipH, I also learned a new word! Thanks.
Perfection, Willow. Damn you are good!
ReplyDeleteWe've been having very nice Fall days .. a chill in the morning, sun in the afternoons, quick chill as soon as the sun goes down. Very nice transition ...
ReplyDeleteAnd, I would love to have a cabin in the woods by the water ..
Love this time of year but there is a bittersweet feeling of letting go to go on. The painting says so much.
ReplyDeleteand hello autumn!!
ReplyDeletewonderful pairing of painting and verse
what an apt picture and verse - beautiful
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting,
ReplyDeleteI have never before seen it!
Here in V., these late September days have brought forth a warm golden Indian Summer, which makes one want to hold on to it and never let it go!
wonderful pic! a place i would long to be. goodbye summer, we will see you soon enough.
ReplyDeleteLovely. Good pairing.
ReplyDeleteBoth the painting and the quote are very beautiful. However I cannot wait to welcome autumn :-).
ReplyDeleteGretings from London.
Beautiful painting and poem. It truly is the end of the summer. It snowed in Colorado the other day!
ReplyDeletePerfect painting, perfect quote. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWillow,
ReplyDeleteWe moved back home from the cottage yesterday: bittersweet.

I'm inspired. We had one small breath of fall after a major rain shower last week. The cold front had lost its cool on the road south, but a very brief residue lingered in the air. Pappy
ReplyDeleteThe calendar may say summer is over but I am betting there's still a little left in the old girl
ReplyDeleteWillow, I know you love russion icons and have just been at http://almostheavengifts.wordpress.com where Toni and Lyle have posted a link for the Russian Icon Museum. The icons are stunning!
