Tonight's Comfort Movie

Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, Howard's End

Tonight's feel better movie is Howard's End, the Merchant Ivory
adaptation of the E. M. Forster novel. Unfortunately, I couldn't find my
favorite scene on YouTube, which is the opening, in which Vanessa
Redgrave strolls outside the house, her gown swishing through lovely
long grass at twilight. But this video is a wonderful montage set to
the music of Somewhere in Time. Sigh. I should feel better in
no time at all.

  5. Ya know, your sensitive side has been doing a lot of movie picking. I think it's time for a comedy, a western or a kung fu movie.

Have you seen Steve Martin's Roxanne? Or Costner, Scott Glenn, Danny Glover in Silverado? And, Ying xiong (Hero) with Jet Li? To name a few ....

  6. I know, I know! I do like some westerns, "The Proposition" with Danny Huston and Emily Watson and "High Noon" with Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly, to name a few. And how about "Patton" or "A Bridge Too Far"? Just not when I'm sick...

  8. I have not seen this but must do so. Just watching the clip made me think of Anthony Hopkins playing CS Lewis in Shadowlands.

  10. The opening is lovely, isn't it? But, I'd have to say my favorite scene is the Christmas shopping one!

  13. Lovely movie. I've only seen it once, but enjoyed it thoroughly. I love that picture of you lounging in your pink pajamas - oh wait, that isn't you after all. Tch. No tissues on the night stand.
    Hope you are feeling better!

  14. I hope the movie hurried your recovery along. If you are still under the weather tomorrow may I suggest a viewing and sing-a-long with that perennial favorite ... Fiddler on the Roof. It should fix you right up.

  17. When you have finished Howards End (an admirable choice) see what I left on my blog and suggested for you to see. A wonderful trip down memory lane to 19169. It will also chase the cold blues away! Love.E.

  23. I will definitely revist this one - it's been so long. That was a great video clip and of course the main characters are such great actors to watch.

Hope you are doing better by now.

  24. The scene where Emma T. and Anthony Hopkins argue outdoors, he says something sharp, and the tendon in her neck visibly jumps at his words...she is unspeakably good. Remains of the Day is another guilty pleasure with these two.

  25. Yes, I know exactly which one you mean! The garden scene where they argue is a great scene. Stellar acting on both parts! I also am very fond of The Remains of the Day. :)
