Take Your Time

R.A.D. Stainforth...in living color...

There is a place,
galactic and unforeseen,

removed from space,
like a ticking clock.

Remote, synchronized
as Shostakovich,

we bludgeon in unison,
followed by only one tock.

Unrestrained measures
surge out of time,

the world suspended
in each sweet stanza.

  1. Beautiful, Tess. I love the musical aspects woven throughout, especially the last four lines.

  2. Excellent! I loved the last meaning...feels like something precariously beautiful.

  3. Ah! The last stanza is a sweet one, indeed. A crystallization of the moment, limned in light and words. This makes me content.

  4. I like the last 4 lines:

    Unrestrained measures
    surge out of time,

    the world suspended
    in each sweet stanza.

  5. Love resides in Wyeth's room, through out your poem Tess (where it ticks and tocks) and at Magpie Tales. Your poem is beautiful, and thank you for sharing it. =D

  6. "Unrestrained measures
    surge out of time"

That was what happened when things spun out of control. We lacked the time and efforts to make a difference. Nicely written Tess!

  7. One tock... will there ever be another tick to complete it.
I love the thoughts of space and time in this. Time, as in man's creation of it, or time as in the universe's own. Beautiful.

  8. the world suspended...that captures the picture for me...frozen in time as the snow out the door....

  9. Listening to Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2 in F major, Op. 102. as I read this again.

Much calmer than the Shostakovich Hat Company skit. ;^)

  11. And each breath, and glance we cast, is a stanza. Each moment lived, lives on in the heart's remembrance.
    There is a place
    In music, words, images
And carefully, it can be visited
    Beautiful writing, tess

  17. So glad to finally find a poem that puts the clock central--in mine, I only used it to figure it was 10:30 am--but here! It is suspended time, it is metronome, it is tick and only tock, it makes the room either in or suspended out of time . . .and Shostakovich . . . I follow you and feel I am in a Ray Bradbury story.

PS: thank you for visiting "Morning" and liking the taste of apples.

  26. Ahhhh.... lovely! Blowing kisses to R.A.D., as always. I clicked on another one of his readings of your poems, and it was "Ephemera", in which you also mention Shostakovich. Coincidence? I think not.

  28. This is WOW in rhythm, rhyme, and punch:
    "we bludgeon in unison,

    Holy cow.

  30. A poem that pushes me out of reality to a place of hints of darker doings, then back to the promise of a last sweet stanza, but I still feel I am missing something.

  31. TOCK

Tess, I feel like some Peeps who have been away from church for many moons, and almost afraid to sneak back in, take a seat barely inside the door, and leave while everyone is marching up for their 'Bread of Life'...

However--like that churchful of people, I'm glad to see you also still here!
    AMEN
    Tick!

  32. Lovely. A very out of time experience. Stupidly, I thought the bust was Beethoven. Sigh...
    "Remote, synchronized as Shostakovich"...sigh...
    Thank you.

  33. Stunning as it delivered tick- tock, tick-tock....wanting and waiting...for the next tick...

  34. I got so caught up with listening to 'R.A.D.' reading the poem, I forgot to comment..his voice and manner is mesmerizing... It's as if we're transported by music to another dimension removed from time and space...transcendental.

  35. Unrestrained pleasure! The middle two stanzas especially. Superb.

  36. A poem so beautiful that I thought I might not need R.A.D.'s take for enhancement. But I listened to him anyway and, once again, marveled at the union of your words and his voice.

  37. Time stood still while I read it, and then once again when I listened to R.A.D! Beautiful Tess! :-)

  38. Ah - this is lovely - it reminds me a bit of Terry Pratchett (anything regarding time emptying and refilling) - though of course much much more serious - Very lovely - we are all bludgeoned by Time I'm afraid, and also endlessly renewed. Thanks for breathless moment. k.
