We are all dying, every moment that passes of every day. That is the inescapable truth of this existence. It is a truth that can paralyze us with fear, or one that can energize us with impatience, with the desire to explore and experience, with the hope―nay, the iron-will!―to find a memory in every action. To be alive, under sunshine, or starlight, in weather fair or stormy. To dance with every step, be they through gardens of flowers or through deep snows.
― R.A. Salvatore
that photo really moved me x
ReplyDeletemay you find many memories this weekend. be safe, have fun.
ReplyDeleteHappy Memorial Day to you, too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quote...all too true. I am a bit of both. I long have struggled with what psychologists call finitude...the reality that this body will die, this love, this friend, this brother, this pet, this planet, this star, this galaxy, this universe. All are finite. I have known times of great impatience, though never so much as my mother-in-law knew. I have also known paralyzing fear. I am a very wise man, but Nietzsche had it right, even in the depths of madness: "Ye higher men, the worst thing in you is that ye have none of you learned to dance as ye ought to dance—to dance beyond yourselves! What doth it matter that ye have failed!
ReplyDeleteHow many things are still possible! So learn to laugh beyond yourselves! Lift up your hearts, ye good dancers, high! higher! And do not forget the good laughter!"
There's another line that ends: "and better still, stand on your heads!" As one Nietzsche scholar noted, the ideal should be to treat living as play. May it be so, even as we remember all that has gone before us, what has been lost, what has been sacrificed...even as we sit with our grief. Love, Michael
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Happy Memorial Day too.
ReplyDeleteLife is made of of how we handle what life throws at us.
