McCoy Pottery and so forth...

click to embiggen
I love the lush details in the pattern, the yummy color.
Every Friday I go to Goodwill.  I know, I'm obsessed.  Believe it or not, I sometimes walk out empty-handed, but not today.  I found a lovely McCoy 1930s basket weave planter for two dollars.  The fun part is researching online when I get home. It's currently selling for $50.

McCoy is an American company which produced pottery in Roseville, Ohio, from 1910 to the mid-1970s.  I like to keep an eye out for unmarked pieces in garage sales and thrift stores.  My favorites are those I find with dirt still clinging to the sides, maybe even a dead plant.

This little crack in the rim is not damage, but a manufacturing flaw.
You can tell by the way it is unglazed around the crack.

  2. My husband keeps telling me I should! Part of the reason I find stuff is the energies I pick up. I'm drawn to things...

  3. Cool. I have 3. I paid $12 for a jardiniere before I knew what I had. I have a miniature one in the same colour same price. And the ugliest strawberry pot you could imagine. It looks like a ceramics class reject. That was free and I'm guessing my ma got it at a yard sale.

  5. Nice find! I go in these places also, I'm usually on the lookout for vintage shirts. I don't know enough about the other things. Like this piece of pottery. I'd probably have walked right by it...

  7. how about showing us the price tag next time so we can be gleeful too
Ohio Goodwill must operate differently than Illinois...they are not stupid...the good stuff they sell on line....and other things they lock up for big prices...the day of those kind of bargains are well over...years ago....but if they still let it go by in Ohio...good for you

  9. Suz: Okay...I will! They mark everything with a wax pencil...only Goo Gone will remove. Our people aren't so smart...half the stuff is overpriced...and half under...

  11. I had no idea you collected McCoy! Great score!!! I have dozens of the planters, vases, cookie jars and tea pots. My Mama gave me two pieces (the wishing well planter and the dog on the wall planter thingy which got me started many years ago) and I haunt thrift stores and Etsy/Ebay for good finds. The pink ones are my current favorites. I'll have to post some one day. Thanks for sharing! xo
