Channeling Julie...

I'm channeling my inner Julie Andrews this week. It really does brighten my day to enjoy a few of my favorite things.  I read somewhere that the average American woman has 19 pairs of shoes, at any given time. Well, I guess that means I'm not so average.  I own at least 35, maybe more.  The crazy thing is, I find myself wearing the same tried and true pair every day, which happens to be this old, cozy, broken-in pair of suede mules.  I put them away in the winter, since it's too cold to wear them without woolly socks. Come spring, they are a joy against my skin. Yeah, they might be a little ratty. So what. I love them.

It might be fun to channel Julie every week.  Look for more of my favorite stuff.  I know you have faves, too.

Sometimes people let the same problem
make them miserable for years
when they could just say, "So what".
That's one of my favorite things to say.
So what.

  1. It is said, that we have 26 thousand thoughts a day, and yet we think the same thing over and over... I will try to have a few more today. That will be my favorite thing.

  2. Annell, why is that? Maybe it's comforting to think our favorite thoughts again and again?

  3. New shoes are usually ghastly; whilst old, well loved, comfy shoes ARE THE BEST.

  5. I adore your old stand by shoes. I'm the same. I have a drawer (or two) of shoes in my closet that hasn't been opened in at least a year. I tend to go between the top two drawers. I just had to finally retire my favorite hiking shoes and went out and bought the exact same pair. I wear them all day long.
I'm amazed at that 26,000 thoughts thing.

  6. I have an ancient pair of Crocs, and I'd apologize except that with my back, they're about the only shoes I have that help rather than hurt. I love them.

    Don't hate me.

  7. I'm with you! I don't like new shoes at all. When I find a comfortable pair that I like, I'd prefer to wear them until the are unwearable. Alas, that just happened with my sneakers.

  12. Incidentally, my novel SHOES OF THE TRAVELER touches, too, on that element of fidelity to worn-out shoes. Visit the piece at maoblooms.blogspot.com

  13. I'm totally obsessed with shoes. The first thing I notice about someone is what they have on their feet. About those mules....I'm taking the fifth :)

  14. Oh I know what you mean. It's hard to throw favorites out - especially shoes. For me it's some sheepskin lined slippers and blue jeans. Usually the daughter (mid 20's) gives me the look when it's time to move on. :-)

  15. I like my runners that I wear while I garden. My knees do not ache when I am wearing my running shoes. They have seen better days, but they are comfy and they have a great gardening patina. =D

  18. I do tatty and comfy mostly, too! I've shoes that old that they're back in fashion again. I wished I'd kept all my 80's gear for my daughter now!

  19. I actually hate buying shoes...I have such a hard time finding shoes that are comfortable. If I do find a pair you can be sure that I will wear them a long, long time:)
