A dog has no use for fancy cars or big homes or designer clothes. Status symbol means nothing to him. A waterlogged stick will do just fine. A dog judges others not by their color or creed or class but by who they are inside. A dog doesn't care if you are rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his. It was really quite simple, and yet we humans, so much wiser and more sophisticated, have always had trouble figuring out what really counts and what does not. As I wrote that farewell column to Marley, I realized it was all right there in front of us, if only we opened our eyes. Sometimes it took a dog with bad breath, worse manners, and pure intentions to help us see. ― John Grogan
I took this picture of a dog patiently waiting in the driver's seat for his master to return. He didn't bat an eye as I pointed my camera at the dirty windshield. He was a stoic old soul and I felt a certain affinity for him.
Beautiful! I remember this photo quite well...I recall it leading to an amazing FB thread :-)
ReplyDeleteIt did...inspired books and poems and movies...giggle...

ReplyDeleteHow true... Sometimes seeing something that is just lovely and sweet is just what a person needs.
ReplyDeleteYou can make your own like button if you want in Blogger. I think you can choose what you want next to the little box below an entry...
My wife recently saw Marley and Me on TV (I was elsewhere). She's spent the last few weeks telling me all about it.
ReplyDeleteI believe what Groucho said: "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read."
ReplyDeleteYou are rockin' my heart on this one...such a soul is this one. And I take your meaning. Completely.
ReplyDeleteI love the way that dogs always get into the driver's seat when you leave them in the car. I agree that dogs give unconditional love - I couldn't manage without mine.
ReplyDeleteI dearly miss my big ol' yellow lab Ralphy...he's been gone several years now...
ReplyDeletehe does look so wise. i wish i were a dog person. i love dogs but feel they are too much work to own. whereas a cat....perfect.
ReplyDeleteSuki, dogs do require a lot more care and attention than cats...but they give so much love in return...
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful. So true.

ReplyDeleteso true... my partner often laughs at me when I clean out my dogs 'dirty' water in her bowl as she then drinks from many dirty puddles and even the toilet!... I think they know how to play us!
ReplyDeleteWe learn this from our dog, Dori. Dori, that's short for Doris Day, you know. :-)

ReplyDeleteSeems to me he has a certain affinity toward you too. xo
ReplyDelete(One of the reasons I love dogs is that they always know when you are smiling at them.)

ReplyDeleteNo truer words than these. Great photo. Dogs know when their owners are coming back and wait so patiently. They are truly man's best friend, and they keep secrets well.
