My new favorite album is Melody Gardot's My One
and Only Thrill. It has been playing nearly non-stop at the manor, as well as on my Facebook wall. If chocolate could be heard, rather than tasted, I swear it would sound like Melody Gardot.
Gardot,
born February 2, 1985, is a Grammy-nominated American singer, writer and
musician. She has been influenced by
such blues and jazz artists as Judy Garland, Janis Joplin, Miles Davis and
Duke Ellington. Her music has been
compared to that of Nina Simone.
I
love Gardot's amazing story, how she overcame the effects of a near-fatal
accident to become an extraordinary vocal sensation. During her recovery, she used music as a form
of therapy. Not long after her release, she was signed by Universal Records and
the rest is history. Her lyrics are
sophisticated and poetical; her sound is cool, dark and seductive.
Check
her out. You're gonna love her, almost as much as dark chocolate.
She sounds delicious! Now to avoid my chocolate box on the way to the kitchen to make my brekkie. :)
ReplyDeletetess - i like dark chocolate so very very much that climbing the staircase to its entirely secure position and replacing it is an unlikely feat. i'd happily listen to this music as i put away a piece of chocolate though! steven
ReplyDeleteI really like her music ("Love Me Like a River Does" is a favorite), but I didn't know she had something new out. Thanks for mentioning her--I think this is just the sound I'm needing right now!
ReplyDeleteSmooth as chocolate and full of flavor....I like her. Thanks for the introduction.
ReplyDeleteps,..are you the linoleum cut artist whose work is spicing up your blog? It is beautiful work. I've wondered for a long time.
Stevie, I wish I could say they are mine. But I do love woodcuts and have been seriously considering trying a linoleum cut, so stay tuned...
ReplyDeleteWhat a voice, thank you for introducing her to me!
ReplyDeleteI love that first opening shot, her, black and white, in the bathtub.
We have woolly socks weather, since Sunday night. Will last until tomorrow. Not bad, especially if one needs to work away at the desk anyway.
Cool,Tess! A wonderful voice. We'll hear more of her after this. Great future ahead!
ReplyDeleteHank
Think I am going to have to hunt this down Tess...gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI know her work well - you are absolutely right about the chocolate comparison.
ReplyDeleteLove that album!! made me put it on:)
ReplyDeleteLove her. I read her story last year and was amazed - wrote a blog post about her as well. She's a regular in my Pandora. Chocolate was a great description! :)
ReplyDeleteHer voice is certainly as smooth as a nice rich dark chocolate! Thanks for introducing her to me!
ReplyDeleteJust received Patina in the mail...equally comparable to rich dark chocolate:)
thank you for the intor, I will run to check her out...
ReplyDeletehugs dear friend
Oliag, glad Patina made it to your door. Dark chocolate? Thank you (!!!)
ReplyDeleteSnap! Way too young to sound like this! I'm such a groupie: Just sent her a message from her website. :)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, no tours presently scheduled...
Rick, I know...I couldn't believe it when I found out how young she is...she is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHer little vibrato is also delicious. Spot on Tess; she's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteEnchanting voice...thanks for introducing her.
ReplyDeletei love the way you bring new talent to our attention - i've never heard of ms. gardot and would be interested to learn more about her life story (google here i come)
ReplyDeletep.s. adore dark chocolate - 85% or higher ;-)
Well done. I enjoyed this a bunch. Still in a codeine induced slumber from the medicine but am feeling better.
ReplyDeleteI had just discovered her recently. Beautiful voice and style. She sounds French to me.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a wonderful musician, and song.
ReplyDeleteYes, she certainly is special.
ReplyDeleteYup ... only I hope that dark chocolate lovers will allow me this. For me, it's milk chocolate--the good kind. Smooth. Very, very smooth and opulently mellow.
ReplyDeleteThis is the kind of music my husband and I always listened to. I seldom hear any new sounds like this one. Thanks for the intro.
ReplyDeleteLovely--and definitely dark chocolate smooth. Will look for her. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSaw this post earlier this morning and was thrilled you are featuring her! Loved the comparison to dark chocolate - that is spot on! I found her album last year and went through a huge phase - trying to get my friends hooked as well - with no luck. But no matter - taste tends to be inherent, so they are forgiven. Even at her young age, she has earned a permanent spot on my "classics" list!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the introduction. I enjoyed. Now to add her to my collection.
ReplyDeleteVery cool.
ReplyDeleteWow--I definitely see the Nina Simone comparisons--she does sound great! Thanks for the intro--I wasn't familiar with her, Tess.
ReplyDeleteVelvety smooth just like fine chocolate. Thank you for sharing her sound. Now to search for her music.
ReplyDeleteI just made your World Famous Pot Roast recipe using a piece of deer meat and doing it in the crock pot instead of the oven. Outstanding. I've got a Dove bar hidden somewhere and now must go find it.

So glad I'm out of HERSHEY BARS. If I had been eating chocolate while listening to Melody...I might have just died right there (and gone to heaven, of course!)
ReplyDeleteTess, you bring me (us) stuff I would never hear, read, or even be aware existed. Thank you.
Bless Tess!
Delicious post, all round!
ReplyDeleteSo smooth and rich! Yes, I'm off to find out more and most likely a trip to i-tunes. Thanks for the heads up.
ReplyDeleteFabulous, fabulous- thank you for the introduction - I love her voice.
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying your blog and look forward to future posts.
Helenxx Stop and say hi
Helenx
There's something very soothing about eating dark chocolate with her smooth creamy tones in the background...
ReplyDeletethank you Tess! --headed to iTunes!
ReplyDeleteSultry and evocative indeed and to think I don't believe I have ever heard her before actually sing, just read of her. Wonderful! Perfect music for that manor.
ReplyDeletecannot watch the video in Germany
ReplyDelete:(
I fell in love with her music a couple years ago. I never tire of listening to her. She coats, envelops, stirs... when I walk while listening to her, I cease to know where I am. I am entirely in her world.
