I picked up a little sunshine today...

Arranging a bowl of flowers in the morning
can give a sense of quiet in a crowded day
--like writing a poem, or saying a prayer.

  1. We went to pick, and photograph, sunflowers yesterday, but they were past their best. So we just brought a few heads back to dry off for the birds.

  2. So beautiful -- they look like a woman's face to me --

  3. I can't believe I am the third one here. Usually, there are scads of people ahead of me. The sunflowers: they always remind me of my grandmothers garden. She had the most beautiful garden always and when I was a child I used to help her shell pea on the back porch in the shade. Thanks for the memories you conjured with your image Tess!

  4. I would die for some sunflowers down under. I am freezing in my tropical (impossible to heat in winter) timber house.
Made all the worse by my recent sojoure in the South Pacific. Espiritu Santo the very island in Vanuatu on which the musical was based and filmed.

  5. Here's to those quite moments in the day, Tess. I wonder if we could grow square sunflowers in square sunshine?

  6. Such delight!

I went to photograph poppy fields the other day and noticed that some of the sunflower fields are in full bloom already. Summer at its peak.

  7. As a gardener, it is hard to see the flowers for the weeds. And it is all about the flower, isn't it...,yes....

  17. The sunflowers are beautiful! And the quote is very good. Wondered how is your painting coming. And wonder how you seem to do everything? Is it a self portrait? Or perhaps the sunflower are?

  21. Lovely photo. Reminds me of Van Gogh. There's a plot of land on a busy street here in the burbs, and every year they plant four or five rows of sunflowers along the street. Just a week or so ago they were just popping up. Yesterday I drove past and they're almost three feet tall already!

Dog days of August? How about Van Gogh days of July??

  22. Arranging flowers, writing poetry!, saying a prayer, OR... practicing the violin.

Tess! You forgot that last one! I absolutely love that simplicity with which you enjoy living--OR Living With Joy!
    PEACE!

  35. Margaret, I got my paints out and started messing around on a canvas, just to get my feet wet again. It's coming. I promise. I've also reclaimed the back porch as my studio, cleaned out all the junk, with a fresh coat of white paint.

  36. Anne Morrow Lindbergh, if I hadn't discovered her years ago, I'd be in another place entirely today.

  39. Astrologer Donna Cunningham suggests in her Sky Writer blog that Sunflowers are particularly helpful to those that need a boost to a weak, or not strongly connected personal astrological sun position. Especially to those in need of a boost to express themselves flamboyantly, shamelessly, exuberantly and without reservation, I might add. I love the cheerfulness of Sunflowers, what a sweet reminder.
