Laura Zindel

Another aspect I love about fall, is that it's the season of dark and quirky beauty. I recently discovered the wonderful art of Laura Zindel, a Vermont ceramist, whose fabulous naturalist drawings are silkscreened and printed as enamel transwares onto her homewares. She does all manner of flora and fauna, but her favorites are beetles, snakes and spiders. Her spider dinnerware might not be everyone's cup of tea, but maybe a lovely fiddlehead  fern platter?  I think her work is amazing.

  4. I am always drawn to ceramics. You know if you hadn't shown me these and I just saw them somewhere, they would probably remind me of you. Looks like they were made for your manor.

  10. The fiddleheads are exquisite, and after reading the wisdom of the grandmother spider...I bow in awe.

"She took a web she had spun, and laced it with dew. She then threw it into the sky, and the dew became the stars."

  11. Jacqueline, that's so charming. I love the notion of the dew being laced in the web, as stars!

  44. Comment No. 49: You're the best of all bloggers. You make me sick. (Tee hee) "Fabulous, wonderful, beautiful, exquisite, fascinating, gorgeous, superb..." These rave words of review all apply to your work as well.

    Don't ever quit.

  45. Her work is nothing short of stunning. I LOVE the birds, and the fiddleheads! But the spider, not so much. I am so NOT putting my lips to anything that has a big hairy spider crawling around on it. Eww!

    ReplyDelete
  46. What an awesome discovery. I could hardly tear myself from her site. I particularly like the birds.

    ReplyDelete
  47. While I adore the stuff she makes, the prices are just a bit too high, methinks.

Am not sure, but I think her website is also befoggled... it was showing a creamer for $165. I sent her an email, and she actually responded to me immediately and said the creamer is $38, there's a large pitcher that's $165.

Whew! I might be able to swing a creamer, but a whole set of dinnerware is out of the budget.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well, she is an artist, and I'm sure each piece is fairly labor intensive. All her handmade ceramic works are crafted entirely in the her Vermont studio. It's not as if millions of pieces are cheaply cranked out in China.
