the scales

Libra (September 23 - October 23) is the seventh astrological sign of
the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Libra. Okay, I am a
tad biased, since I was born under this sign, (October 20th) but, being
the scales that I am, I'll try to give you a fair and balanced description.
.
Libra is considered a masculine, positive sign. It is also considered
an air sign, indicating compromise and is one of four cardinal signs,
implying action. Libra is ruled by the planet Venus. Also known as
The Scales or Balance, Libra is the only symbol of the zodiac
represented by an inanimate object, rather than an animal or human.
.
The scales have a deeply symbolic meaning for Librans, since the
need for balance and harmony in our lives is paramount. We have a
strong sense of justice and principles, are sensitive to disharmony,
avoiding confrontation whenever possible. WT often describes me as
an iron fist in a velvet glove. I'll admit, I can be a tough cookie, but in
a harmonious, charming way, of course.
.
We tend to be gifted conversationalists, easy going, flirtatious,
intelligent and sometimes gullible. Since we can see both sides of a
problem, we can often be indecisive. Libra is a sign of partnership, so
we find it more difficult to cope with loneliness than any other sign of
the zodiac.
.
Librans need art, beauty, and symbolism in our surroundings.
We are pure romantics at heart and are drawn to attractive things,
lovely people, and have a strongly developed aesthetic sense.
Librans are very much interested in culture and the civilized side of
life.
.
Laziness and relaxation are often associated with this sign, but this is
not entirely fair. While Librans may not enjoy heavy, sweaty, dirty
jobs, (this is so true) we certainly don't lack physical energy,
especially if the work has a creative element. We may seem relaxed
because we often make time to listen and give others a sympathetic
ear.
.
Gemstones associated with this sign are sapphire and jade. Our
colors are shades of blue from pale to ultramarine, pink and pale
green. Our body part is the kidneys, which, amazingly enough,
resemble the scales. Flowers are large roses, hydrangea and blue
flowers in general. Countries associated with Librans are Austria,
Burma, Japan, Argentina, Egypt, Canada and Tibet.
.
So, there you have it. A very Happy Birthday to all my fellow
bloggy Librans!

  2. I'm throwing a little Libra birthday party on Saturday - but it is a surprise so don't tell! And part of the decorations are vintage photos (the Libra person is a tad vintage himself!) and I will display some of them on my two antique scales. What a great time of year to have a birthday.

  3. Leslie, what a great theme for a Libra party! Enjoy the festivities. Can't wait to hear all about it. :)

  5. Happy almost-birthday to you as well, Willow. I have always thought I am a true Libra--the descriptions are always very "me." And Eric once said to me, "Mom, you know, they took the word 'gullible' out of the dictionary." My honest-to-God first reaction was, "Really? I wonder why." And then it hit me. Foiled again. Love your husband's description of you. Fabulous!

  11. Well, and a happy birthday to you too, Willow on your Libra day.

I've known lots of libras in my time, as I seem to be drawn to them. Tells me something about myself, that does.

  16. Suki, I think the opal is the October birthstone, which is different from the gemstones associated with the zodiac sign Libra.

  17. I just missed being a Libra and tipped over into Scorpio. However, I was born very premature and should have been a Christmas baby. Where does that leave me astrologically I wonder.

  18. Do you realise that you were ever so close to being born a Scorpio:-)? Ahhh, hear that? That's the call from the dark side, Willow. Just a couple of more days and you'd be a member of my club.

Excellent post. It reminds me of my best friend in Cuba, a Libra. 15th October.

    Greetings from London.

OMG Willow! That's a phrase I use to describe myself all the time.

As for the rest of your analysis, you've tagged us Libras perfectly!

  28. Now this must make it a year since I have been looking at your beautiful blog because I can remember that one of the earliest posts I read was another Libran one.

Happy forthcoming birthday to you, willow. My moon is in Libra (sun in Pisces, Aries rising) so I am a bit Libran.

  29. I love Libras. My first love was Libra...

  30. I often wonder who made all of this stuff up and how much did they get paid? It reminds me of the oft quoted Ann Landers in her heyday. Remember her? Patty and I are both Scorpios. A not supposed to happen kind of marriage but it has lasted 54 years already. LOL

  31. And happy birthday to you, too!!

  32. Happy Birthday!
Yes, a cool time of year to enjoy it before all those darn holidays kick in to clutter things up.

Wishing you the best, I will leave you with these quotes. .

"A Birthday is just the first day of another 365 day journey around the sun.

    Enjoy the trip, 'Willow'...

    Happy Birthday!

  36. FF, actually I started the zodiac post series in January with Capricorn. Scorpio next month and then Sagittarius in December will finish up the series.

  39. I've never paid much attention to astrology, but you are making a believer out of me. My grandmother's birthday was October 2, and this describes her almost spookily well.

  40. Happy Libra to you too! I'm an early Libra (Oct 2) - love those scales. But it's really tempting to throw a little sand in the works! Hope you don't swallow all this zodiac stuff whole, it's best salted. Take care.

  41. Happy Birthday, Willow.

Saturn comes to Libra on October 29to stay one year, an efficient task master to set our working relationships straight. Good luck with that.

  42. I finished reading this with a smile. My brother is a Libra (oct 18) and all you wrote about a Libra's personality is totally him!!!
