put the chocolate in the bag and nobody gets hurt

It is like one of my dreams. I roll in chocolates. I imagine myself in
a field of chocolates, on a beach of chocolates, basking-rooting-
gorging. I have not time to read the labels; I cram chocolates into
my mouth at random. The pig loses his cleverness in the face of so
much delight, becomes a pig again, and though something at the top
of my mind screams at me to stop, I cannot help myself. Once begun
it cannot end.

from Chocolat by Joanne Harris

What is it about chocolate? I found this ethereal dark chocolate
Godiva goody stashed in the freezer for a must need moment.

And that moment is now.

  2. My weakness. But I happy to say, I have had no sweets for 2 months. Now that I don't even desire them anymore, you come along with this post.

I am glad the Sweet Shop is closed now or you would be able to hear my wheels squealing.

Yummy post. Now I will go eat my brown rice.

  4. Patty, actually, I wouldn't even call this 72% cacao dark chocolate a sweet. But, oooh, is it good.

  5. I love chocolate but it has to be a treat, about once or twice a year and it's heavenly!

  6. Oh yum -- most chocolate I can take or leave but the really dark chocolate has a siren call I can seldom resist. But it IS good for you, in moderation, (or so I've been led to believe -- possibly by the devil himself.)

  9. Oh yummy - chocolate! Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, chocolate with minty bits in, hot chocolate, chocolate eclairs ... I've not tried onions coated in chocolate yet though ...

  10. For a minute there, I was imagining you rolling around in chocolate! I know, My mind is in the gutter, but in this case we are talking about chocolate! lol!

  13. Shame on you Willow! Hubby is in the kichen cooking dinner and I just reached for my Harry & David Chocolate stash under the desk because you tempted me with this post!! God it was good! HA!

  17. I've been trying to avoid fat and sugar lately and am feeling that I no longer have a craving for it. Weird, right?

  18. I was sitting in the restaurant with Barry and we were looking out the window. The Godiva chocolate truck drives up to deliver the chocolates to the store down the mall. The delivery guy parks, opens the back of the truck and heads off down the walkway with a dolly of boxes. There were other boxes on the truck. I am not a thief but temptation was staring me in the face that day.My question is Willow, did you wait for the chocolate to thaw?

  19. One almost fears for the future of chocolate. The pleasures of a decent cigar - now long gone. The pleasures of a decent single malt - they will be trying to get rid of that next. And then they came for chocolate!

  20. Linda, it was in thin pieces, so I didn't! :P

  21. Oh yes, a perfect chocolate moment...so many perfect chocolate moments! I always keep a bar of semi sweet in the freezer!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I wish I could keep a stash of chocolate, but alas, if I know it's there it's all I can think about until it's gone. So I don't keep any in the house (except lowfat chocolate ice cream bars - for some reason they don't call my name like candy does).

When I lived in Zambia we would go to the duty free & buy up a whole slew of Cadbury bars. We put them in the freezer, but once I figured out that my teeth didn't break when I tried to eat them frozen they weren't safe from me!

  23. I love the ending to this post.
Sweet! Well kinda anyway, it is dark chocolate. I could just see myself in that moment of discovery, and even better, with no one else home so I wouldn't have to share.

  26. Chocolate is so wonderfully primal and selfish...when your eyes are closed savoring the taste. Of course, I also use chocolate as an antidote to what ails me any moment after wanting to scream at an author or editor. Instead I storm from my office, through the house, to MY chocolate box in the kitchen. Then back through the house, chocolate melting in my mouth, I mutter unpleasant thoughts about editors and authors and all is once again well in the world until the next e-mail or phone call.

  27. Strangely chocolate is not one of my decadent foodaholic cravings, but I have gillion of chocoholic friends and relatives. Mercy!

Homemade candies, including chocolate are banned but it is the sugar not the flavor.

All of your bloggies craving chocolate, have an extra serving for me!!!!

  28. Mmm-mmm- good!

One of my favorite treats is Really excellent chocolate washed down with an English ale - preferably a bitter brew. The contrast in offers a phenomenal taste experience.

  29. And on top of being comforting, delicious, smooth, satisfying .. chocolate is healthy for you!!!

  30. A heavenly quote from Chocolat - a film with chocolate and Johnny Depp... well.. say no more.
Which season do you think chocolates belong to? If any... or all?

  31. I think we are on the same wavelength today. I just bought a card that says... oooh wait. Should I tell you what the card says or should I mail it to you like real snail mail? Interesting thought. If you'd like the card in the mail then email me your addy. If you just want to know what it says drop me a line and I'll tell ya :)

  32. Today the choccy Gods bestowed upon me two little squares of the most delish choc one could imagine, just two squares that's all.

I have been off chocolate for almost a year since over indulging at Cadbury World... mmmmm.

  33. Shaista, what an interesting concept. In my thinking, chocolate would belong to winter.

  34. Patrice, paired with English ale? Now I must try it. I've always preferred my chocolate with whiskey or red wine.

  35. thank g-o-d- "they" have finally found that dark chocolate is actually GOOD for you - me - us!

  36. Stuffing chocolates into your mouth at random....

reminds me of that episode of Lucille Ball where she's working in a chocolate factory and they can't keep up with the conveyor belt...remember? Hilarious!

Chocolate cures everything! :) We had Texas sheet cake with chocolate icecream for dessert tonight. The days stress just melted away! LOL!

  39. I know about the old freezer trick. It doesn't work for me. I'll get up in the middle of the night and go get one of my homemade chocolate chip cookies and eat it frozen.

  40. Ummm... chocolate. Heaven on earth. Many years ago my husband and I bought chocolates on a drive in Switzerland, planning on having some when we returned to our hotel -- and they melted to a gooey mess in the back seat of our rented BMW. Foolishly we tossed them all out! We should have scooped up the whole sorry mess in its wrappings and let it firm up in the cool evening air!

I still mourn those lost chocolates.... Cass

  41. Lucky you! :-)

Imagine, last night, deprived of chocolate for I don't know how long, I ate 4 morsels of very old chocolate left in the car by one of my kids, probably a year or so ago. Still, it was a Eureka moment and I sent a "Thank you, Kid" towards heaven. See, that's the power of chocolate. ;-)

  42. I don't know what it is about chocolate, but thank goodness it was invented.

  43. Willow asked "What is it about chocolate?
I truly don't know, but I want to learn more about it(chocolate) origin...read about it(Chocolate) in books, and most definitely, eat it(Chocolate) too!

By the way,I will try to check out Charlotte Rampling's Under the Sand.

    Thanks, for sharing!

  46. Ann Oliver, a South Australian chef does the most exquisite & decadent dessert. Called Chocolate Slut, it's become a local culinary icon. What I wouldn't give for a mouthful or 6 of it right now!!

  47. You must be like the girls here. Everyone love chocolate and I saw a new box of Ester Price Candy and a Sack of Dove Chocolates all enter the house yesterday. Plus a giant Hershey bar with almonds -- this for me for Grandparents day from my grandson, Noah.

  48. We live in a small French town and yet we have two chocalatiers - where it is made from scratch and going into these pretty little shops smells like heaven. If you're lucky they're just doing experiments and give you something to try for free.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think a lot of my time would be hanging around those little shops. I can just imagine the heavenly scent!

  50. To 'find' a hidden away for a special day chocolate treat makes it even more special than it was on the day it was bought. Enjoy, Willow, enjoy!!

  51. Hahaaaa! Cures a lot of things, doesn't it! Great photos.

  52. I, too, am a lover of dark chocolate.

When I read about the Mayans, who drank chocolate straight: no sugar, no milk, I understood suddenly how it was possible to reach inside a man's chest and pull his heart out to offer it to God.

I like my chocolate tempered a bit, so I don't go completely crazy when I eat it. YUM!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Dark chocolate is very low in sugar and its actually good for you .. okay I lie, its not actually good for you but it cant hurt ...

    ReplyDelete
  54. Oh yumm. :) I'm having my fair share of chocolate today too. My coworkers baked me chocolate chips cookies for my birthday. How sweet are they?

Isn't it funny how we mature into dark chocolate eaters as we age? Your first pic is great; the second one's not bad either!

  60. After I finish the pre-fortieth high school reunion diet in a couple of weeks, the first thing I intend to eat is a chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream. I have craved it for months and it will be mine! I can only imagine the wondrous first bite.

  64. Joanne Harris actually emailed me. I told her that I had used her recipe for Gateau Lawrence. I thought I better credit her as many who had gone before me had not.

I was surprised when she, not her flunky responded.

I really love your recent posts.

  65. I am sad to say that I used to only eat the 70 per cent dark chocolate but lately I eat any chocolate. I have become addicted to Freddo frogs. It is oddly cheering to see that little frog face looking at me as I eat him. xx

  66. This was just too wonderful...your chocolate dream....and all the comments! When I first read it yesterday, I was here at school. working in my room as I am today, and I remembered I had stashed some of those super yummy Land of Lakes cocoa packets!!!
It was raining heavily outside; I needed to grade some papers; and I found one of the Chocolate & Raspberry blends.....ahhhh heaven in mug! That is THE way to lighten one's burdens! A chocolate moment indeed!
