overheard at the manor

a phone conversation...

daughter: Mom where ARE you? It sounds like you're at the airport!

.........(((deafening high pitched whirling sound)))

willow: (shouting) The washing machine is starting to scare me! It's
spinning out of control, lifting off the floor and moving toward me!!

daughter: It's the full moon today. Must be some kinda lunar effect.

  2. Yeah, horror is right. It was REALLY scary!!! I've had this machine for several years and it has NEVer done this. It wasn't that off balance thing, this was crazy fast spinning!!!

  3. I think maybe our washing machines might be related....

  5. It's working fine, now. Just a one time random act of spinning horror.

  6. Maybe it is a secret portal to us over here!

    ReplyDelete
  7. A secret portal that occurs on the full moon! I'll have to crawl through for a visit. Maybe it's kinda like "Being John Malkovich"?

  8. This makes me think of the movie Maximum Overdrive lol!
    Wicked photo!

  9. Maybe you need not the Maytag man but an appliance exorcist. "I reBUKE thee, foul spirit. Be HEALED!"

  10. life is always strange then fiction!!! full moon definitely!

  11. Making note: appliance exorcist

  13. If it makes it into the hallway...leave!

By the way, it's funny that my tartan lady was wearing your family's tartan. I thought she resembled you!

  16. Might be that your unseen house guest was in a playful full moon mood! Maybe she's a pranster Virgo!

  17. I hope it wasn't pirates from Davey Jones locker that got into the wash water. There is no buried treasure in your washing machine is there? You haven't got any double dog swears or dares outstanding, have you? No treasure maps or pirates in the family? Mmmmmm.

  18. I was going to mention Maximum Overdrive too - my Mom & I saw it at the theater. We thought it was going to be a comedy - boy were we surprised! But we stayed to watch the whole thing. In the end we decided that it WAS a comedy disguised as a horror movie...

  19. hi willow, perhaps your washing machine is frustrated at its pre-programmed restrictions and is trying out some new ideas on you? steven

  20. LOL--possessed. So you have ghosts in there, too, eh? Did you see Jupiter next to the moon the other night? I thought it was Venus, to be honest, but it was supposedly Jupiter. We've had lovely weather, and even though I've been exhausted the last week or so, the nights have gotten almost fall-like. I'm good with that. Hope your washer behaves for you now...

  21. Marc, you do? Which one? I change them so often.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Linda, um, does Johnny Depp count?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Brush, Jupiter? Is it still there? I've gotta go out and look (not howl) at the moon...

  24. Pamela, I loved your tartan lady! Do you know who she is or who painted her?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sorry Willow, I don't know who she is. She was residing quietly in one of my Scotland files. I do love her though.

  26. Yikes! It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's a washing machine!

    ReplyDelete
  27. it sounds like you'll be getting a visit from that lonely old maytag repairman!

do you think it was a visit from your ghost?

  28. Oh, the horror of a wanton washer on a full moon summer day! Maybe a call to the appliance man?!

    ReplyDelete
  29. That happens every time I put MOTH's 'not-Calvin Kleins' into our machine. I think it's silently screaming, as it edges its way toward me, 'Get those disgusting things out of me!'

  30. oh, i love a bit of domestic drama! in your photo it looks like an enraged dalek. thanks for visiting me! i love your beautiful place full of words, art, books and food.

  31. You crack me up, Willow. I can totally picture that scene! I can't help but remember the haunted manor story. You don't suppose your ghost was trying to liberate you from domestic chores, do you? I know I wouldn't mind such help!

  32. ahahah it happened to me too! my washmachine is in front of the sink... and once I found the machine just attached to the sink!! they live when we don't see....

  33. It was funny and scary at the same time. Hope your washing machine has sweet dreams tonight :-).

    Greetings from London.

  34. Better keep an eye on that machine - it may try to take off one fine day when you are not looking! :-)

When I moved here, the washing machine that came with the apartment was spinning so violently, my neighbor downstair took here chandelier down, out of fear it might fall. We have since installed a new oner.

  35. Washing machines fascinate me.....how DO they work?.......lol.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "Don't look at it, Willow!"

If the dryer ever joins in, you better run! tee-hee!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Your washer has such a BIG mouth! Yikes!

    ReplyDelete
  38. We had similar experiences until the floor it was on was totally replaced "in this old house." I even sat on it, on occasion, to keep it from traveling too far! A big lol Willow.

  39. There should be a big, round, red, push button on your washing machine with the words "PUSH" on it. I think it stops the machine from doing this. lol

  40. Harnett-Hargrove, I know! It reminds me of a big, angry King Kong!

  41. This is too funny - it sounds like a conversation between my daughter and me.

There are those who will tell you that this is to be expected because Mercury went into retrograde on the 6 September. If one believes in these things affecting life as we know it, then be prepared for amongst other things: I quote from a friend's blog:

"During Mercury retrograde we should also refrain from expecting electronic equipment to function at full capacity. Computers and the like seem to sense Mercury revving up to back up and begin pulling all manner of tricks a nd engendering glitches and spikes guaranteed to drive us all bats."

Oh what fun!! We should all be okay after the 20th!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Bee, so maybe it was a Mercury thing and not lunar, after all. Hmm. That makes sense. Or maybe a whacky combustible combination of both?

  43. Well you are still blogging willow so the "thing" must have calmed down. Typical daughter-talk that bit of conversation. Fantastic photo.

  44. Washing Machines are the tools of the devil. They are the only places where cleanliness is not next to godliness.

Be afraid Willow. Be very afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hello Willow,

I'm trying to work out what's in the photo! I was thinking that it could be the porthole window in the washer door vibrating madly but then I remembered than in the US you mainly have top-loading machines!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Better not go into the laundry room alone for a while...
lol! Be careful! I hear they eat socks amongst other things!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Too funny.... I am hoping you were exaggerating but if not, I hope you escaped before it swallowed you up!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Derrick, I've got a front loading set!

    ReplyDelete
  49. just go to the cleaners, eeeeeks!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Mine deos that too.I have had it checked adn it still does that. Its awful. I always feel bad for my neighbours below me.

    ReplyDelete
  51. ok, so how might you have offended the gods of appliances, do you think?

i'm thinking a moondance at midnight by the light of the full moon might help with perhaps an offering of clean bed linens lined with fresh rose petals!

  52. My grandma used to find the "holy in the daily"-she said it gave her much more peace to see "chores" this way than if she had been grumpy that it had to be done. And that woman had a lot of jobs on the farm. She was a lovely soul.

  53. Oh!LOL.How is it now?I forgot about the full moon, maybe that's why so many moody impatient jerks this morning on the road!:)
