Lucky Shroom

It's a cold, rainy Monday here in my neck of the woods. The pelting
rhythm on the skylights all afternoon has been working on me like a
lullaby. The most exciting thing that's happened all day, is finding this
quirky mushroom with two stems, in the pound I sliced up for dinner.
Pretty cool, huh? Heavens to murgatroyd! Maybe it's a good omen?
I'm thinking it is!

  1. aahh, Contemplation on a mushroom? Now, that's how you know you are either paying way toooo much attention or have too much time on your hands; and I love it :)

  2. Oh Willow, This omen thing might be a stretch...too mmany mushrooms chopped, too much rain falling, maybe too much champagne yesterday? ha Lovely choice of music going way back and to date the strangest mushroom I've very seen. Happy Day!

  3. Well, like you, the rain either patters or pelts the three skylights we have. And I would love to sleep under one of them but no chance of that. That kind of sound is music to my ears. I prefer a tin or metal roof and rain. Wow.

It is cold here too. I sit around on my hands trying to keep warm.

  4. And there I thought that Psilocybin mushrooms had been outlawed!*giggle*

  5. And to think that I went with my family to the pictures today to watch 'Monsters vs Aliens'. Now, THAT looks like one of the aliens. Many thanks for such a fun post.

    Greetings from London.

PS: On second thoughts, it looks like a slug, doesn't it?

  6. heavens to murgatroyd! have not heard that one in a while...lol. rain here as well. what are you going to do? might as well enjoy the music and the patter in teh background. happy monday!

  7. What a curious mushroom indeed........!

  8. Can I eat dinner at your house? Rainy and chilly here, too...I would love to have someone cook for me, even if dinner is funny looking mushrooms.

  9. I once found a six leaf clover. I found it pressed the other day in my dictionary.

  10. That mutant mushroom is certainly unusual, but I was most fascinated by the Carpenters video posted on your blog today. I was never a fan - too busy listenting to rock and roll at the time. I've always thought of the Carpenters as too straight-laced and cutsy for my taste, but damn, that girl had a great voice. And isn't funny, I know all the words to that song.

  11. Ahhhhhhh, mushrooms and rain! The smell of new dug earth! A good book and The Carpenters!Sounds good to me! Have a great rest of the day !

  12. It looks like the Pillsbury Dough Boy fell over and couldn't get up.

So much for my "The Zen of Mushrooms."

  13. Maybe it's a magic mushroom!

Sorry about your weather. Amazingly here in England it's been absolutely gorgeous, warm and sunny. For once we aren't moaning about the weather.

Anyway good excuse for listening to one of my favourite songs.

  14. Kind of looks like a pig with bulging eyes. Very interesting, but the question is... if you ate it, did it taste any different?

  15. What a cool post!!! Are you sure you're just chopping mushrooms for dinner? You're not eating the funny kind are you?

  16. Never seen such a creature-- & always happy to see the underused phrase "Heavens to Murgatroyd!"

Coming of age (in some sense) in the 70s, the word "shrooms" will probably never really mean the kind you cook with, tho they're the only kind I've partaken of for many many years!

  17. I like to take all the good omens I can get, so I christen this mushroom one, most definitely.

  18. Okay, well Patty's comment about the Pillsbury Doughboy got me thinking and now I look at this and I'm seeing that funny rubber toy that you squeeze and it's eyes pop out. Either that or this is a mushroom that made this face when it's mother told them not to and now it's frozen this way which goes to prove mom's are always right.

  19. Hi Willow,

Happy Easter, somewhat belatedly. I hope you had a nice weekend. Is WT home or are you emoting via Karen Carpenter?

The weather here was cooperative. It was a really nice weekend for us. The occasional crocus and grape hyacinth but no mushrooms.

  20. Oh my Willow, lets hope this isn't the result of genetic modification...laughing. Thank you for the wonderful Karen and the Paul Williams lyrics. I kissed her on the cheek once !
    Exits...stage left....!!!

  21. He looks rather like one of those little stress relieving balls that you squeeze till the eyes pop out.

    What's for dinner tonight??

  22. I became distracted by the beautiful poem on the side panel, from one of my favorite author. But the mushroom is a good omen too.
    Thank you.

  23. It looks like a character from one of those 'Mr Men' children's book series...did you have them? Mr Grumpy, Mr Sneezy...
I think this is Mr Rolly Polly (fallen over backwards)

  24. Heavens to murgatroyd! I do love that expression...

  27. Thanks for the video. I miss the Carpenters. How much music did we miss out on?

And the mushroom is certainly a good omen.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Love the 'shroom! But just wait till summer -- we usually get a few rude tomatoes that I can't wait to share!

    ReplyDelete
  29. What a find! I love it Willow.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Too funny--I think there must be a poem in there somewhere, don't you!? The rhythms of the rain on the skylight and the light on this mushroom, and its eccentric duality. I love it. Sounds like a good thing to me.

  31. that is some magical shroom!

I hear tale it morel season!

  32. Ooooh! Musssshroooms! And although it finally cleared up( round here, anyway ), still a wonderful Carpenters song to help one get through it( Monday blahs, that is ). Thanks Willow!

    ReplyDelete
  33. He's cute, your googly-eyed little 'shroom! Can't you just hear him saying "ET phone home"?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Definitely a good omen! A double mushroom to be eaten with double the garlic! Yumm!

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOL Willow, well I never! I have never seen a two stalked shroom! Let's hope it is lucky, let us know if it is?

  36. Mmmm, didn't even have to click on the clip to know I was going to hear Rainy Days and Mondays. I love that mellow song. It's the perfect contemplative song. Perfect for a rainy day.

  37. Mushroom reminds me of a book here called, "Play With Your Food"... pics of food with faces, etc. Fun stuff. this little mushroom of yours looks like he could almost get up and walk on those two stubby legs.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sounds like a nice easy day. I loved The Carpenters, but saddened by what happened with Linda.

That mushroom was amazing. Yes! A good omen.

  39. A quirky shroom
    In a darkened room
    Sprouted two feet
    His friends to meet

    But Willow sought him
    Caught and bought him
    Admired his good looks
    Added garlic and cooks!

  40. The two-stemmed mushroom kinda looks the Pillsbury Doughboy toppled on his back with his two fat, little legs sticking out. Holds the same fascination as the two-headed calf.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Amazing shroom indeed, and most blogworthy! I love that saying "Heavens to Murgatroyd"!

  42. Hello Willow,

As someone who has chopped mushrooms by the kilo for breakfast in our guest house days, I've come across these "lucky" ones times many! Never took a photo though - too many hungry folks!

Enjoyed the trip down memory lane with The Carpenters!

  43. it looks like an upside down teletubby!!

  44. I love mushrooms! It's a rainy Tuesday where I live and thanks to the rain the flowers look might happy!

  45. Aren't these two mushrooms 'melted' into one? Well, it's amazing, anyway! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I guess if a mushroom has two stems it's "well grounded".

    ReplyDelete
  47. It is the strangest mushroom I've ever seen -- perhaps it is a mutant?

    ReplyDelete
  48. hmm, when i clicked on the video it said it had been removed due to terms of use violation. ?? i just bought mushrooms to make mushrooms on toast.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sorry about that, Suki. It was working fine until now. I just replaced it with another one, so it's up and operational now!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Really cool.Hope it will bring you luck!Have a nice day :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. it does look like a teletubby from waist down :)

sorry about your weather, i hope a little bit of our sun travels your way.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Since you can't be sure, why not decide it's a great portent?

Oh the Carpenters. What a sad story - Karen Carpenter is who I'm talking about. Did you ever see the movie about her done with Barbie dolls? It seems funny when the movie starts but it's so compassionate and so well done that by the end I was completely engrossed.

Enjoy the rain. And creamed chicken? Yum. Sounds delicious.

  53. The rains and damps are getting to me too...ha!

    Is it Spring yet...

  60. Two, two ...two 'shrooms in one!
    Great photo...such an interesting pose!

Delwyn, I have a tall stack of Mr. Men books....I always liked Mr. Uppity. Maybe Willow's mushroom could inspire a Mr. Schizo! (I don't think they did that one.)

  61. Anon, thank you for that link. Wow, she can really sing! I wanted to post this video on my sidebar, but the embedding feature was disabled.

  62. willow, this confirms that mushrooms have breasts!

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Goodness with the eye hurting I am getting behind. I was just wondering if the mushroom was a set of idential twins that did not seperate. Maybe that happens in nature too.

Anyway just a thought. Very interesting picture, never seen it before.

    God bless.
