Winter + Blog = Blub

Old man winter is kind enough to give me a reprieve. A week or so
ago, it reached 68 degrees and a wave of sheer panic almost knocked
me off my fat little winter feet! I adore winter. I relish snuggling up in
cozy woolly clothes and baking all the delectable comfort food
associated with the season. I'm in my element in the winter; my
energy level is high and am more motivated than in warmer months.

But the thought of squeezing this little white hunk of blub into my
spring clothes (heavens to murgatroyd) leaves me horrified. Usually,
by spring, I've worked off last year's summer slug and can brace the
clothing shift with relative ease. Not this time. And it's not because
I'm eating more. No, dagnabit, I must honestly blame it, pure and
simply, on the fact that I am blogging.

So, does this mean that blogging makes you fat? No, it can't possibly
be. I'm not going to let it! The snow has melted now, and I have no
excuse to avoid walking, except that it was just 16 windy degrees
this morning. You know, the last few chocolate chip cookies, in the
freezer from the holidays, really should be eaten before they get
stale. Want some? Good. I'll put the kettle on. After all, tomorrow is
another day. Don't you love the fact that Scarlett preferred to do all
her proper eating at the barbecue?

  1. OMG,
I was just getting ready to log off and I saw this picture on your blog.
I'm supposed to LOG OFF NOW to go downstairs to the gym.
    *sigh*
    I'm still blogging...
    and not doing my crunches...

  6. Darling willow blogging by itself is not fattening but don't you think that chocolate mousse or café au lait with madelaines entice the neurons to descibe vividly all details of one's life. OK , I guess no. I am looking a bit, should I say Rubenesque these days. I must put my walking shoes on. I also love winter. It gives me an excuse to treat myself to sweets, long naps and poetry. An endless winter is not such a bad idea. A winter that doesn't go below freezing. :-)

  13. OMG, too true! Between working on a novel and blogging every day, I can only say, thank heavens for black stretch pants.

  14. Willow, you and I aren't getting fat, we're just "puffy."

Don't worry, it's just from eating too much salt on those hearty meals. We'll be fine. LOL

On another note, I've seen many of those paintings in my Architectural Digest magazine in the homes of the wealthy. The first one I saw was shock to me. I wasn't sure I liked it. Now I see the beauty in it. I really like the lady in the red dress dancing.

Thanks for sharing that video. It made my day. (as your blog usually does)

  21. I will say this i am actually about as white as this picture. Yes I need to see the sun shine!

  22. Suffering succotash, Willow. I feel exactly the same way about winter. You must have been reading my mind lately when the temps have been warming up. How will I ever fit into my spring clothing? There is no way.
Yes, the inactivity of sitting here on my couch and blogging IS really making me fat.
    Fortunately, I am not unhappy.

    ReplyDelete
  23. HAHAHA!! At least Botero appreciates a fine figure of a woman! Yep, blogging increases the 'secretary spread' no end! We need more of that music to get up and dance it off!

    ReplyDelete
  24. The picture is wonderful! I guess I have a different outlook for body image. Its how the eyes view at beauty.

    ReplyDelete
  25. LOL--good one. Well, we all feel that way. Even my job has me sitting and reading these months right now with all the applications. It's not our fault, right??

    ReplyDelete
  26. I was more intent on looking at those high heel shoes, than the fat bum...

  27. "So, does this mean that blogging makes you fat? No, it can't possibly

  30. OMG,TMI and NET!

Oh, My God, Too Much Information, & Not Enough Time) for exercise! This is 2 funny! You know, for every decade we increase in years, our BMR, basal metabolic rate, decreases by 10%. Which means that even if we don't increse our intake, we will still gain weight due to decreased BMR. In real terms, as we age, we have to eat less and move (MOVE=4 letter word for exercise) more. Thank Goddess for chubby chasers like Botero!

  31. Ha ha! Blog Watchers. Or Bloggers Annonymous as opposed to annonymous bloggers. My name is Pam and it has been 2 hours since my last blog....and yes, don't mind if I do have one of the choc-chip cookies you're passing around.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mmmmmm...chocolate chip cookies!5+ dozen of those snarfed down at Christmas--in a week. A "comfort" batch of a couple dozen, last month--gone in 4 days. 1/2 a banana bread still in th' freezer( or is it? )and a 6lb. tin of Harry London gourmet chocs for Valentine's( 1/2 gone but I've been sharing ). If I didn't work two jobs, this would be a bad thing. I can still exit, stage left. :)

  34. Don't worry about it I say. What will they put on your tombstone - she was lovely but she could have been smaller. I'm on the larger side but it doesn't worry me in the slightest.

  35. Hello Willow,

When I saw the picture in my reading list I thought it was by Beryl Cook. She adored depicting fat ladies (and men) having a riotous time. They are full of humor.

Voluptuous is the word I would use! And I'm game for a cookie anytime.

I've just noticed the Einstein 'mysterious' quote - totally love it, Willow!

  39. Now I'll have to say, even at this early hour that painting stopped the scroll on my reader. If full backside nudity offends you then please don't read this. Full figured girls need love too. Fernando obviously made frequent trips to the lower Rio Grande Valley for models. Tortilla Queens rule. Great post. Pappy

  40. Blub, that is a new word.
I think I need to go use my Wii Fit, not, such a sad state of affairs for me too.

I have turned into a Blubering Flogger. I am afraid to look into the mirror for fear I will see the same backside pic of me. Maybe I should get on that Wii. But at least my brain is getting exercise. Wait is it getting smaller or larger, hmm, maybe that is where the extra weight is coming from, not.

Thank you for reminding us to go exercise. Will try to take you up on that one. God Bless.

  41. I lost 35 pounds last summer. I've put about 5 of that back on over the winter so that means I have about 40 to lose this summer.

Ok...I don't even want to think about it right now...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, today I'm on the opposite side, Willow... I just hate winter! lol! I know they are mild where I live (not last January), but even so I wish it was summertime... allways! I really need sunshine, T-shirts and bermudas to be happy! :-) I can't complain now: 16Âş and a blue sky in February, this is spring.
    Love the Botero clip!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Boy that pic will get the bloggers rolling in, wow I love this art work, so real, so raw, so true.

    ReplyDelete
  44. OMG I love the video! Hilarious.

Early spring is time to get moving. That tiny extra bit of winter weight will drop away once I start taking long walks.

But I can't walk when it's frickin freezing out there!

  45. Hey Willow, do throw some of those cookies this way--we're not really good at chocolate chip cookies in this neck of the wood but they are so yummie!

  46. Dagnabit!I knew it was something! I was going to blame it on Puerto Rican food with a little of that inspirational music you have here behind the lovely rotund ladies and now I have to face it- it's the blogging??? No, it can't be...as you said, Willow, I won't let it! We need to develop a walking/blogging program...20 minutes walking 5 (?) minutes walking... No? Okay, portable iphone blogging while walking! Afterall, I don't have that much free time...I must multi-task! Thanks for the fun post, willow! <3

  47. well, i'm heading for a southern hemisphere winter.. and my first blogging winter, too! i know that feeling - the couch, my laptop and a cup of hot choc or glass of red wine is really going to be infinitely preferable to the dark early morning run scenario! great post, thanks! :-)

  51. I love Botero- he makes me feel skinny, especially now, after all the blogging Ive been doin since July.

You're gonna love The Diving Bell and the Butterfly- but beware- give yourself time after the movie- youll want to research the whole thing.
    Cheerio..

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wow Willow that painting is really catchy.
But I guess blogging makes you think and thinking requires brain and brain takes up a lot of calories ;)and burning calories keeps you away from resembling rubenesque models.
Just being optimistic because I cant let the thought of Willow hitting the gym and we blog-readers left thirsty of warm posts generated from Willow's thoughts creep in.:)
Btw did you find the reason of seeing 11.11 so often? My curiosity led me to this :http://www.crystalinks.com/11.11.html

  54. Also, it reminds me of many of the scenes from Wall-e(a lovely aminated movie)!

  55. One blogger I know keeps a mileage total on her side bar of miles walked; treadmill and outside. I have thought about using the same accountability. So far I have avoided that commitment. Care to join me? If you do, I will…. Blogging community support.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Leslie, that's a great idea! I don't have a treadmill, but I walk outside. I'm game!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I am in the same boat! We need some kind of exercise we can do while blogging. But then, I know I wouldn't do it. So why can't I just put my shoes on and get out there? I actually like it once I am in motion. But, like you, I prefer winter months. I actually feel depressed with too many blue skies. What is with that??

    ReplyDelete
  58. I could have sworn that painting was by Beryl Cook!

  61. actually the word blog just SOUNDS fat, doesn't it!

    ReplyDelete
  62. wow, i don't think i've seen so many comments on a blog before! does that mean you leave 60 comments back? (if so, believe me, i understand. we bloggers are a special breed). i enjoyed your hypothesis: i assume those choc. chip cookies are right beside your keyboard?

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. LOL. Look at us. All bloggers, all really, really identifying with the Botero paintings. I loved the music, by the way. It took me back to a wonderful holiday in Cartagena about, oh, thirty pounds ago. Back then, I danced to that music.

  64. Auntie is back again. I really did go to the gym and now I am blogging with a package of Ritz crackers in my pocket.
    mmmmm....

  65. Willow,
Somehow we seem to come to the same conjuncture at the same time frequently. I too have sought the solace of the trodden path to whittle of the winter insulation attributable to an ample serving of blogables.

  66. We are on the same 'blog' page Willow! I've got to get out and start walking THIS week. Blogging is beginning to catch up with me - dream wise....Last night I dreamt that YOU and I were dancing Sevillanas, the 'national' dance of Spain! AND you were making some sort of hors d'oeuvres! Hysterical! Have a fun weekend. Ole'!

  67. Oh I love Botero. If it weren't for his sculptures I really would look fat. And yes, blogging is addictive but the thought of hauling this fanny back to Paris in May has jarred me into action. Walk an hour a day and then you can get back on the computer! That's what I tell myself.

  68. Love the pic Willow!
I would love a choc chip cookie and hot tea if there's any left.
I like winter too but have enjoyed a few spring like days this week and had a warm time in the garden.

    ReplyDelete
  69. That picture is hilarious - and hits really close to home. I am chalking up the extra insulation I have accumulated up to winter hibernation factor. Now when spring arrives - not sure what my excuse will be! I really need to move my body more. Anyway - I digress. I wanted to say that I LOVE YOUR POST!!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Great pathway photo Willow; makes me want to walk! And it worked; we both walked! And that's all I am doing so far; making sure I move. Once I get that down, I'll work on the cookie issue. Baby steps....

  71. I am game on the mileage side bar accountability issue.

  72. Bloggin makes me fat but less so than reading a book (pages turn better with a nibble or two)...

    ReplyDelete
  73. love this post, willow! i'm right there with you! i so long to be out on my bike riding on the country roads. this white blog of a body will not be wearing shorts any time soon. hee hee

    ReplyDelete
  74. OOOH! It was blogging that did that to me?!

Perhaps a blogging diet is in order. I would be better off if I just wrote my own blog and didn't visit other blogs.

Blogs are like potato chips and we all know how that goes....

    fun post!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I hear you Willow! Who wants to walk aff the fat rather than blogging? Not me, that's for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  76. You know, you can buy these treadmills that have pcs built in to them. So you could blog and exercise at the same time. I wonder if people really do that?

Great post. Every spring I am determined to get off my fanny and do more walking. My fanny really likes the couch and the chair and the bed and the driver's seat. Dagnabbit!

I feel the same way as you about winter - love it - probably because I love to hibernate and stay cozy and warm and eat comfort foods...I have every intention of joining you and Leslie on keeping track of my walks!

  78. Magazines are folding, pounds are multiplying, all because of blogging. Somehow I just can't give up the habit - blogging is the best.
