Those Lovely Intangibles

Fred Gailey: Look Doris, someday you're going to find that your
way of facing this realistic world just doesn't work. And when you do,
don't overlook those lovely intangibles. You'll discover those are the
only things that are worthwhile.

Later on in the film...

Doris: Faith is believing when common sense tells you not to. Don't
you see? It's not just Kris that's on trial, it's everything he stands for.
It's kindness and joy and love and all the other intangibles.

  1. Oh Willow, I'm going to take that phrase with me everywhere I go today; 'Those lovely intangibles'. How true and how very very important. And more real than 'reality'.

  8. This is becoming vintage willow now :-). 'Those lovely intangibles'. You take a phrase and make yours and suddenly the term or expression acquires a new trascendence.

Brilliant. I love the new header.

  10. I was thinking of you last night, Willow. Went to hear 16th century Spanish Christmas music at the Folger Theater here. It was transcendent!

When I listen to medieval Christian music, I always wonder what it was like to be Christian then. I can feel the energy flow so strongly in the music. It must have been so powerful!

  11. I really think it's great and all, but seriously, I think that you should put a little more excitement into your posts. Like the pics are great but the writing isn't.

The intangibles, those little intangibles that define humanity. Thanks for sharing those lines, I have never seen that movie. So, you can imagine what a treat it will be for me to see it for the first time.

  21. Hello Willow,

'Miracle' is a lovely film, although it's a while since I've seen either version. I must check the TV schedules!

    Your header is very intriguing.

  33. Love the movie, and thanks for the reminder of who to interpret our lives as we move forward.

Are you getting that nasty winter weather that's moved into the east?

  34. Reya, I would have thoroughly enjoyed that concert! Thanks for thinking of me. :)

Cali, the photo is not original with me. I lifted it from Google Images.

Barbara, we had tons of rain today. I was out and about and got completely drenched! We would have had a boatload of snow if it would have been just a few degrees colder.

  36. Willow, I often watch that movie and wonder what it is that makes me sigh... I love the spunky take-charge but emotionally available mom (who is dressed in timeless fashion). Santa's ability to sing to the newly adopted girl in her own language is heartwarming. The entire tread of love and having faith in each other reminds me to be open- even though I could be hurt.

  37. Oh! This is another "must watch" this weekend..

    "intangibles.." Now that's just perfect..

  38. Aw, I am sorry to see the picture of the girls go. They looked like they were having the time of their lives. But this one's nice, too.

But I love "Miracle" quote, especially the part that says, "faith is believing in something even when common sense tells you not to." Spoke to me deeply, especially now.

No other way to put it.

  46. I'm so glad I stole your old header before you replaced it, although the new one, presumably of you, is charming. I wish I had seen "Miracle" when I was young enough to "know" that Santa Claus really "was". Nevertheless a lovely film. I saw "The Searchers" the other night, (when she was a little older).

  47. "Those lovely intangibles" has always been one of my favorite lines from that movie! Such a good thing to remember.
