My work is cut out for me on the patio.
Ohio yesterday and left us without power for 24 hours! We were
lucky enough to have ours restored a few hours ago, but almost 2
lucky enough to have ours restored a few hours ago, but almost 2
million Ohioans are still without power. We have a well and when
the power is out, there's no water either, so needless to say we were
very relieved to be back to normalcy. And I was having a terrible
case of Internet withdrawal. So, I am happily catching up with my
bloggies and looking forward to a nice hot bath!
I experienced the same here in Ohio this weekend, Willow. Glad you all are safe and had minimal damage--I saw it EVERYWHERE on my travels today and survived a weekend of no power in a hotel! Not much fun...;)) but it makes me appreciative that I'm fine...once again! Take care...
ReplyDeleteWithout power, I actually did normal things like read, dust, clean off my desk and sort through my stacks of books that have accumulated around my computer area. You know, things we used to do before the internet! ;^)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you didn't lose any trees! And,also that your power has returned!
ReplyDeleteI remember driving home, from a massage no less, during the height of Hurricane Ivan when it came through our area and seeing everything blowing around at such strange angles. It was stupid really, but I found it sort of thrilling! We were leaving the country the very next day, so I was in sort of a throw caution to the wind sort of mood. No pun intended.
We never lost power, but the wind was violent last night. I kept awakening thinking someone was in the bedroom, but it was just the wind whistling and causing creaks!
ReplyDeleteWooo, you did get blown around. It was quite breezy here Saturday and Sunday too, but nothing like you guys got. I'm glad you've gotten your power back.
ReplyDeleteThat last time we had a real blow from a hurricane here was when Ivan came through. We had 2 trees down from him.
I found your blog through the black box. My parents live in NE Ohio and are still out of power, I'm glad you got yours back. We just got lots of rain here in Chicago, no wind.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your blog and will check back again.
You know Willow the thought actually went through my head at work today, I wonder what Willow is up too as I know she's have commented on my floors!
ReplyDeleteRelieved to see not too much damage and that you now have power again. Btw we have the same patio umbrella!
A Gingko tree - that's a new one to me?!
Glad you guys are safe. Your place looks so pretty. You always have the prettiest banners on your blog. Isn't it fun to just putter around, but no computer. Oh my. I always enjoy your blog.
ReplyDeleteWillow, I'm glad you did not sustain serious damages. I have only once experienced a hurricane and that was in the Pacific Islands and it was scary. Glad that you now have power. I had fun following you around in the black box 'Vortex' today, my day off. Best wishes to you.
ReplyDeleteBonjour Willow !
ReplyDeleteIke est vraiment méchant.
Tes photos montrent bien les dégats...
Alors, tu es sale, puisque Tu n'avais plus d'eau ,
Je Te taquine...
-----------------------------
Hello Willow !
Ike is really bad.
Your beautiful photos show the damage...
So, you're dirty, because you had more water !
I teased You...
Ike didn't give us neqaarly as much of his weather when he skirted by Florida. Looks like he was saving up for Ohio! Who'e a thunk it! Glad the damage isn't too bad and the lights (and computer) are back on!
ReplyDeleteglad you are OK!
ReplyDeleteStrange beast, that Ike. I have a friend living 200 miles north of Galvestone and she got some rain and some wind but little more whereas you, who are tucked further away, even had electricity cut!
ReplyDeleteIt is good that you did not loose your trees: they look lovely.
Goodness WIlow! I'm glad that you are safe and sound. I dislike Ike!
ReplyDeleteWow! You poor thing, that was some wind. So glad you are safe - though I don't envy you clearing up all the detritus left by Ike.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it weird being without the internet - but kind of fun too - peaceful :-)
Exciting but scary. Glad your damage was minimal. We just had one of our ordinary storms with thunder and lightning, gale force winds and hail. A number of people had trees fall on their houses and cars and there was some flooding.
ReplyDeleteNothing major, luckily no loss of life. The wind played havock with my orchids and wind and hail did the same for the blossoms in the orchard but, cest la vie!
We don't really do Biblical weather in Scotland (unless you consider 200 days of drizzle on a par). But I admire you're plucky spirit - 24 whole hours without the net (oh, and power)!
ReplyDeleteBlack Box brought me here (again!) Disturbingly the choices included bare all / nipple tassels.
Willow, not much wind here but rain, rain, rain. We had more than 10 inches of rain in two days. People living near the Chicago, Des Plaines and Fox rivers are flooded. Our weather is beautiful now, hope your's is the same.
ReplyDeleteOh yuck!
ReplyDeleteGlad everything is ok, if messy
I am so pleased you and the Manor are fine in spite of some damage. I cannot imagine winds like that. Pretoria is almost wind-free just breezes now and again and mild gusty winds before it rains. Thank you also for my Award - I am only catching up now on blog comments, I confess. Will do a posting with the award later in the week. So pleased to be a kindred spirit! Eleanor
ReplyDeleteGlad you're safe and sound. Ike has been quite devastating everywhere it's gone. A total 'persona non grata' chez Le Cubain a Londres.
ReplyDeleteWish you better you and your family.
Greetings from London.
Wow! Somehow I never really thought of Hurricane's effects so far from the ocean. (or maybe I need to look at a map...geography was never my best subject).
ReplyDeleteI wandered here from the Black Box - glad you're back on the internet! I know how bad withdrawal can be!!!
These pictures look very familiar!
ReplyDeleteWow, sometimes Mother Nature is really a slob. May the force be with you as you clean up your patio.
ReplyDeleteGlad you're mostly safe and sound following the storm.
And glad, too, to know you're out there. I see your comments on lots of my favorite blogs. Glad to make your acquaintence!
How awful for you, I am glad that you got through it unscathed. We all take electricity for granted don't we, until it gets cut off.
ReplyDeleteYou would think Ike would know that hurricanes are not supposed to go into Ohio. How rude. Glad you were spared any real damage. Amazing how many things need electricity to function. I don't even think about those that aren't real obvious. Pappy
ReplyDeleteHi Willow, Re: Snow in the Mountains or my tres invasive variegated, however attractive, ground cover. Here (in Nova Scotia) it thrives all spring, summer and fall. Perhaps it's the difference in our climates. It grows so well here it really literally will take over the entire garden. I do think cutting it back or mowing it down mid summer (for you) might be the secret. It wouldn't hurt it I'm sure. Glad that you survived Ike. xo, S.
ReplyDeleteLove the new header photo .. Ginko leaves?
ReplyDelete:-Daryl
So glad you're okay! 60 and 70 mph wind gusts can be scary!
ReplyDeleteI tagged you, it's a very short tag, but seeing as how you're kind of busy...you're under no obligation. :)
Have a great day Willow!
Hello. Thanks for dropping in to my little blog via the Black Boxes widget. Isn't it marvelous?
ReplyDeleteI shall return.
Did the gingko leaves in the header photo come from the gingko tree that was swaying in Ike's breeze? Either way, the header leaves and the swaying tree are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe DC area didn't get Iked this weekend, but we did get 3-7 inches of rain from Hanna the previous weekend, most of it in one day. The day after the storm was absolutely gorgeous, though. I hope that you were similarly blessed with some beautiful post-storm weather. It certainly makes for more pleasant patio cleaning. (: )
I am so glad you are safe. Take care.
ReplyDeleteCJ xx
That Ike certainly spread itself a distance. Glad you did not have structural damage as well as the inconvenience.
ReplyDeleteGreat pic of the steam train.
Your daughter is beautiful, as is Dresden.
I'm so glad that you are safe and well. I am very fortunate to have never experienced a hurricane myself and can't imagine how frightening it must be. I'm glad your power has returned. I hope you enjoy your nice hot bath!
ReplyDeleteBM x
These photos look like a beautiful abandoned manor house so even though you have a mess to clean up it made a great photo.
ReplyDeleteGlad things are back to normal.
Hello, I came via the blackbox all the way from England. You have beautiful photos. Glad you managed to dust whilst the power was out, always one of those jobs you put off until things become desperate!
ReplyDeleteCool... you found my place through your black box widget thingy. Then I followed your visit to my blog back here. If that isn't karma, what is?
ReplyDeleteWillow, we got hit with the winds on Sunday and there were lots of downed trees and limbs here in Winchester and in Lexington. I'm so surprised that our ancient walnut withstood the major gusts. Am very glad you and the Manor were spared any horrible damage...And by the way, can I just camp out on your patio?...My, what a beautiful sitting area...
ReplyDeleteyes, we suffered thru the tail end of ike here as well. we were very lucky to have no damage on our property but many of our neighbors were not so lucky, losing trees and parts of their fence, siding and shingles. our electricity went out at 2:00 pm on sunday and just came back on this afternoon, tuesday. i missed the sound of the fan running at night but enjoyed playing rummikub with bill, taking walks and reading to fill the time we normally would have spent watching tv. i DID miss the internet too, willow!!!
ReplyDeleteBless you guys. I was amazed at the news reports by how hard you guys got hit by the wind. Amazing how a storm on the gulf can affect an area so far away. Glad to see all is well. Better get a nice "leaf blower" and clean up that patio!!!!
ReplyDeleteRemnants of Ike hit us as well. 10+ inches of water over the weekend. I have a sister in Houston who rode out the storm and came out intact, but my sister (who lives in Ohio) and I (who lives in Illinois) suffered worse damage. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteYou know, for a moment, I thought Ike might have been your ghost. :)
That is beautiful aftermath of a not so beautiful act of nature. Love reading your posts...inspiring
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how one hurricane could have such widespread destruction. That 500 mile spread was reckoning and I am happy that you have power back. Three days without it was the longest we ever experienced and to think that Galveston is decimated. How awful.
ReplyDeleteAmazing the things you get done when the power is out during the day. Glad you are safe and sound Willow.
ReplyDeletewow - Ike didn't know when to stop - glad nothing serious happened - and you got your dusting done! even with the debris your patio still looks so inviting.....
ReplyDeleteWillow I just saw Betsy's post. That is crazy!! I am so glad that ya'll are alright. The wind must of been terrible!! It's gotten pretty ferocious here at times, but nothing as bad as what ya'll experienced. So glad you're okay.
