Flowers really do intoxicate me.

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend, my friends.
Don't forget to visit the grave
of a loved one and pay tribute; after all,
we are who we were.

in the Spring, my mother always talks about how they would gather arm fulls of peonies for the graves of lost loved ones in Hamilton, Ohio. It must be a midwest thing as no one (that I have seen) does it in NC.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo.
I took an arm load of peonies to Carroll County, Indiana a few years ago, to place on my grandmother's grave. They were her favorite flower, as well.
ReplyDeleteNot a tradition here, Tess, but I will.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shot. We used to have these on the farm when I was a kid. Mom wouldn't let us bring them in because of the ants that they held.
ReplyDeleteI always bring a gigantic bunch in. Who cares about the ants?
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty photo of the peony and the raindrops!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite flower as well, hands down!
Spectacular peony! A favorite of mine too.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Memorial Day too!
Will go June 3rd to Tony Curtis's grave and leave flowers on his birthday to celebrate his life and the wonderful cinematic memories...
ReplyDeleteI posted pics from my recent visit to a flower farm today, but none as beautiful as your photo, breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful pic. and a wonderful post. May you have a happy happy one!
ReplyDeletewow your peonies are open already
ReplyDeletemust be a sign

Memorial weekend
enjoy being free
Every day has been a kind of memorial day for me, of late. It always feels important to me to hold close those who have passed before me. I have no peonies, will an iris or poppy do?
ReplyDeletehave a beauty filled weekend tess!
ReplyDeleteOoh those have to be the most gorgeous flowers I've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteThey are bad about the blooms getting too heavy and then falling over, so I've learned to place the supports around them.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend also !
~Jo

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tribute; that image is just beautiful.

ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend too Tess!
ReplyDeleteThe peonies here are still in a tight bud....My granddaughter and I had a pleasant visit to my parents' and grandparents gravesites today bearing flags and geraniums....It was a gorgeous day!
Beautiful, just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes, if I ponder more what 'was', I'll know more about what 'is'.
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to raise peonies. I love them.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful pictures, Tess!
ReplyDeletei brought in a load of peonies early this week and placed them in a pitcher on my kitchen counter. love the fragrance, love the ants, as always, working overtime to peel back the blossoms.
ReplyDeletea few days later, i moved the bucket and watched in wonder as a cascade of silken petals fell on the granite counter. they were so lovely that i didn't move them for hours.
What a beautiful tribute to Memorial Day. And I have peonies on my blog today, too! They're my favorite flower as well, along with lilacs.
ReplyDeleteWe go to a huge birthday bash tonight. Lady M bought 2 big bunches of pink peonies for the 80 year old.
ReplyDeleteMother's Day here tomorrow.
The peonies last too short a time but a the most beautiful flower, and I will visit my beloved Mr. Winky's grave and if I am who I was (oh god), I am doomed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning peony - and always good to remember the ones who came before..
ReplyDeleteIt's taking me ages to catch up on weeks of lost blogging, but enjoying it as ever. Weekend greetings from over here!
Amen. I Visit my Parents Tommorrow.
ReplyDeleteWell said, as always, Tess.
ReplyDeletePeonies are the only flower I know of that look equally exquisite whether in bud or in bloom, in the garden or arranged in a vase, carefully arranged or dropped carelessly at the edge of the sink.
With their sculptured leaves and ruffled petals, they have no equal in the world of flowers.
Your photo is magnificent!
flowers always reminds me of life. how it blooms and then fade away and gone... best pic pic i saw... love it...
ReplyDeletehappy memorial weekend!..

ReplyDeletei visited my parents grave last weekend and left flowers. not peonies however which sounds a lovely tradition although up here they would not be out yet.
Tess -- the peony is weeping for all those that gave their life. Although, today, Memorial Day is for all deceased loved ones -- it was originally for those that fought in our wars -- barbara
ReplyDeleteI love peonies too.
ReplyDeleteI do love peonies, too--beautiful, Tess. Have a relaxing Memorial Day weekend. A good time to remember those who gave so much for us all...
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful Willow~
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, lets all remember our loved ones & pay tribute.

ReplyDeleteHope you have a safe and fun Memorial Day, too.
ReplyDeleteExquisite photograph, Tess, brava!
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a safe Memorial Day!
I came across this poem - Gaspar's Ferry: End of Ohio Roads - and thought I'll share it with you.
Well said, Tess.
ReplyDeletea stunning image for sure,
ReplyDeleteand even though you are
bustling around with family
and busy as the ants who
inhabit the peonies, still
you have the heart to remind
us all that today we reach
back, not just to our war dead,
but to all the departed
that live on within us,
and they enjoy the feast
of flowers like the rest of us.
May your Memorial Day be one of good memories, dear Tess.
ReplyDeletewe can't have the same fave flower too??!!
ReplyDeletexx
Nice peony. It looks like mine, wet and dropped over on the ground.
ReplyDeletePeonies are such lovely flowers and yours, drenched with rain is exceptional.
