WT: I'm walking up to get the mail.Willow: Hey, can you take the clippers with you and bring back some lilacs?WT: Okay. How many do you want?Willow: A nice big bunch. Thanks, Honey.Ten minutes later, WT taps on the kitchen window.
WT: What are lilacs?
Too funny!
ReplyDeleteYour bouquet is just gorgeous. I imagine they smell sweet, fresh and springy.
LOL! still laughing...
ReplyDeleteVery funny! Love the "story" and the gorgeous photo! And I also love your new header as well...really a treat...and invites me in...
ReplyDeleteThat's just how we operate. If there was a forest fire, a charging lion or a moving car without brakes - we would know what to do. Flowers - not so much.
ReplyDeleteThat is precious!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I do know a fair number of Eberle's plants, I've got to admit I've been in that position, too (tho not with lilacs). That's a good one.
ReplyDeleteNo way. Really? I love lilacs, ours won't be in bloom for another couple of weeks. Their scent is so perfect, and fleeting, which makes it even more perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love it when they say that! LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya! If it's not a Rose, he don't know, just thinks their all pretty! LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteLove the perfume of lilacs too - they're not quite out here yet, but when they are - glorious!
Love the story! A lot of our older neighbors here in the mountains of NC didn't have names for various shrubs beyond 'ol' yaller flower'(forsythia) or 'ol' pink flower' (weigela), And they tended to call lots of flowers lilies -- whether they were or weren't.
ReplyDeleteThat would be my son. Hilarious. And lovely. Our lilacs won't be in bloom for a few more weeks. I can't wait.
ReplyDeleteLOL--sounds familiar. Hey--he did good. They're so pretty. I went through Duke gardens today and saw some gorgeous things blooming and snapped about a million photos. Lilacs area a huge fave of mine. Ours will be fading soon--I wish they lasted all summer.
ReplyDeleteno way !!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletethis is so beautiful.
you are so lucky right now to have this all around you.
xx
p.s. this banner is killer ! love.
Love it!
ReplyDeleteYa gotta love the little dead heads. And I'm not talking about the flowers.
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny! and cute! I love how he is ready to help out though!
ReplyDeletethat was so funny, loved it, also beautiful photo for your title block
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute!
ReplyDeleteOur lilacs are blooming, too! They are right by a window that I left open... on purpose!
You must have shown him, cause they are gorgeously gracing your house. I see others with healthy lilacs in my neighborhood. I have had no luck. My bushes are slim-picking most years. I forget to feed, or...
ReplyDeleteLOL!! Our lilacs are blooming too and the aroma is beyond lovely.
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny. I used to know a man who called all flowers roses. I thought he was unique in that respect (after I figured out that he wasn't kidding).
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh....are they ALL the same??? That was so funny.... and my life. Great post!!!!!
ReplyDeletePrecious!
ReplyDeleteSo very typical!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you told him to just follow his nose!
What a glorious bouquet he found for you.
LOL. :) Funny, cute and endearing.
ReplyDeletehahaahahaha! looks like he found them though? beautiful--can smell them from here!
ReplyDeleteCute! He was so willing to help.
ReplyDeleteAh nothing better this time of year!
ReplyDeleteLinda
what a delightful story! truly laughing out loud!!
ReplyDeleteHehehe...."They're the things that the mailman can smell from the road, dear...." :)
ReplyDeleteI love lilacs. I wish I had a bush, but I don't wish for the ants that come with them. They draw them like bees to honey.
Enjoy good smells!
Sarah
Too Funny! The lilacs are beautiful and I can just imagine the sweet scent! Love the header too!
ReplyDeleteOh, that sounds right! Happens here too. I love my lilacs but will have to wait a few months yet.
ReplyDeleteLove your new header! LBx
Lilacs are absolutely one of my favorite flowers. They won't be here for a couple weeks, though. We are enjoying the forsythias and the trees are in blossom. It's all beauty. Spring is so gently, richly sensual. When the lilacs do get here, the scent will fill my house if I can possibly make it happen. You can not have too many lilacs, and yet just a little sprig can change the whole atmosphere in a room.
ReplyDeleteAnd now that he knows, is he enjoying them?! I wasn't expecting that last line. Life is funny there at Willow Manor!
ReplyDeleteCatherine
LOVE the willing heart! That's true love. You tell me to get it and I will. Even if I don't know what it is. :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you sorted that one out! Lilac is one of my favourites too, xv.
ReplyDeleteToo funny.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great anecdote.
That could almost be me :)
ReplyDeleteI've got one like that here - he always goes on about the blue tree we have - only I know what he is talking about :)
ReplyDeleteWT, welcome to the club, mate! I thought those were bluebells :-D!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks.
Greetings from London.
Hello Willow,
ReplyDeleteAt least WT knows now. We had a lilac bush when I was a child. I remember it blooming only once, after which it never seemed to manage it!
:)
ReplyDeleteI love lilacs!
oh that's funny.
ReplyDeleteI saw the lilacs calling out to me from my dashboard and my heart lept. I LOVE lilacs. Heavenly smell and color. Tragic that they bloom for what.. two weeks a year? OF course you have bushes at Willow Manor.
Laughing so hard! Thanks for a great beginning to my day!
ReplyDelete-Liz
lol. i agree with Bill. looks like he figured it out though. nice flowers. what kind are they? lol.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely priceless. Love your blog; as visiting is always a wonderfully full and enriching experience. Thank you : )
ReplyDeleteLaughed out loud.
ReplyDeleteThe more I read of your personal stuff, the more I think WT and Willow are a parallel universe of BB and Wife.
ReplyDeleteLast summer Wife wanted me to go out and cut some oregano and I had to quiz her on what it looked like.
Ahhh - made me laugh out loud - and thats the true test...love the new photos
ReplyDeleteSo true. I think as little girls we were so wrapped up in flowers. ie. "This is a daffodil and this is a tulip and this is a rose" and we all cut them out at Easter from construction paper. I don't think boys cared about that stuff.
ReplyDeleteI like your header too.
You are a master of keeping incognito, by the way - I almost forgot that Willow is your nom de plume.
Thanks for the smile this morning!
ReplyDeleteThere are some beautiful lilac photos today over at Lobster and Swan.
Great little story - made me smile. And I can smell those lilacs from here!
ReplyDeleteAnd can you explain to me again why they call it a 'man's world'.....
ReplyDeleteHa!
ReplyDeleteThe scent of lilacs is the most exquisite thing in the world, except for the scent of tea roses ... at least I think so.
Enjoy those lilacs!
too, too funny !
ReplyDeleteMy favourite (or one of my favourites - mock orange & sweet peas are in that short list too) scent in the garden. Love lilacs. Thanks M. Willow !
xo S & les Gang.
How did Himself get to Willow Manor? Like your new header, and the Lilacs are beautiful. They remind me of my gran. She always had one outside her kitchen window. Thanks for jogging my memory.
ReplyDeleteHilarious! Cute too. wow, our lilac bushes barely have little leaves just unfolding from their buds. I'm jealous! Lovely bouquet.
ReplyDeleteCute and beautiful! I can just smell the sweet perfume.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful picture you took! Do you mind telling me what kind of camera you're using?
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Those lilacs are gorgeous--I can just smell them...mmmmm. And it's clematis at your doorway? Oh! *look of total chagrin* Still lovely.
ReplyDeleteRestless Mind, Thank you! I use a little Canon PowerShot SD1100.
ReplyDeleteYes... but he's very cute!!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous. I haven't smelled lilacs for years. My aunt had a small motel in the mountains and the entire yard was fringed with purple and lavender lilacs.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't realized how much I missed them.
i'm not sure if that's funny or a little bit sad! but i can almost smell the lilacs. it'll be a few more weeks here. :-)
ReplyDeleteAh men.
ReplyDelete... its your very own Husbandism!
Suza, he's THE cutest!!!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha... oh my. That conversation could have been recorded right here.
ReplyDeletePriceless. Cass
Hi Willow....WT might wish to join me on the forthcoming course at Manchester Uni...laughing here Willow.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lilacs....and well done WT
LMAO!
ReplyDeleteI love Lilacs and we have a wonderful bush, but their scent gives me a headache, so outdoors they stay sadly.
That could have happened right here in my own home.
ReplyDeleteGeez you've been eaves-dropping at my place!
ReplyDeleteI just love meandering over here every day. It is such a comfortable place to visit. Thanks for sharing yourself with us.
ReplyDeleteOnly the most gorgeous smelling flowers on the planet. To be caught in the waft of a wind of lilacs is to be transported to another time and place. My bushes are just greening at the moment. It will be May before we see and smell them here.
ReplyDeleteKat
That's too funny! but WT did fulfill his mission in the end...and what a beautiful bunch !
ReplyDeletehope you're having a beautiful spring at the manor !
So perfect ... .so typical.
ReplyDeleteBut, we still love them!
I've just posted my own little advice re: Men / Flowers.
Love your new banner - they're always a treat!
Jjjj
Well yes.....!
ReplyDeleteWe had a teeny weeny little garden in London when we were newly weds.
I planted a purple lilac.
R very kindly pruned it in March.........
tomorrow I will rush up to the green market to buy armfuls of lilac.
My lilacs are just finishing.
ReplyDeleteRound our way it's bad luck to bring lilacs indoors.
The bouquet makes for a bright moment. Amusing story.
ReplyDeleteKevin, I've never heard it being unlucky to bring them inside. Must be only bad in your neck of the woods!
ReplyDeleteHellooooow, Willow !!
ReplyDeleteI could just see this little scene played out! It made me smile...a much needed smile.
A darling image in your memoirs...make sure that exchange makes it to a page in your book!
No way! (btw, you can reach out of our bedroom window and pluck lilac on one side and wisteria on the other)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the picture. I don't care for "purple" in clothing or furnishings, and yet it is one of my favorite flower colors.
WT left me smiling. I bet he will never forget any more what these beauties are called. LOVE the lilacs!
ReplyDelete(late catch-up, I'm all over the shop this week)
ReplyDeleteI think it's a north of England thing; I've never gotten to the bottom of it. As I child I remember pursed lips whenever "we'll gather lilacs" was played on the wireless
So funny! Lilacs are one of my favorites! The scent is hypnotic, and I love the beautiful color of them. ~Lori
