Last week, Charmaine, over at High Desert Diva, featured her lovely
keepsake jar in her Theme Thursday's post for "glass". I thought it
was so charming, I had to drop everything and make one for myself.
It was a fun project, since I have so many quirky little treasuresgathered and dragged back to my magpie nest. I filled a plain glass
globe with vintage Bakelite dice, a whisk broom, face from an old
pocket watch, old skeleton keys...
...a crystal stopper from a broken decanter, a rubber lizard...
Benjamin Franklin refrigerator magnet from a trip to Philly, a vintagelighter, wind up alarm clock and a glass eye, among a whole pile of
random oddities now displayed for all (or at least me) to enjoy.

What a neat idea! It kind of reminds me of the time-capsules that were so popular at one time.

This is a beauty! The choices, the placement and the photography. It holds in silence and creates conversation and with a little effort a story could evolve!! Wow!

ReplyDeleteThis is fun! Your collection of stuff is wonderful. Having inherited my Mom’s eclectic collection of interesting things, I simply must try this, if you don’t mind. I have set upon set of bakelite dice and other bits and bobs. What a great eye for arrangement you have dear Willow! As for our walking; the tree pollen is so thick, I dare not venture out much at all, and have been laid low. As soon as I can, I will return to our gentle walks. Don’t wait for me. I hope to “catch up.”

ReplyDeleteI have a large glass vase, like an elongated fish bowl, where I like to assemble little seasonal glass-scapes.
cool! i have a couple of these around the house. one's filled with shells and the other with beads at the moment, but this is a great idea! i love to change them out anyway and it's time! :-)

Super idea - shall try it myself - it is always a problem to know what to do with one's little treasures - they take up space and are not shown to best advantage . an't wait to have a go.

ReplyDeleteI'm with A Brush with Colour - my whole place is an ongoing collection of collections! I do like my tchotchkes, trinkets, and treasures...
cry-ma-nee that is one great project. I would have to buy a glass something or other to fit my stuff in. Right now my garage isn't two cars wide as there are a row of floor to ceiling cabinets with those plastic tubs behind each door. Some have more than one tub. All the tubs are filled with treasures that actually came out of my house, our office, or from somewhere. And when I really want something I know where it is but I am seldom able to find it without going through a lot of storage tubs.
ReplyDeleteI guess the solution is to get a large glass container and then fill it with recipe cards, in order, and each card has the contents of each tub.
