Last week, Charmaine, over at High Desert Diva, featured her lovely
keepsake jar in her Theme Thursday's post for "glass". I thought it
was so charming, I had to drop everything and make one for myself.
It was a fun project, since I have so many quirky little treasures
gathered and dragged back to my magpie nest. I filled a plain glass
globe with vintage Bakelite dice, a whisk broom, face from an old
pocket watch, old skeleton keys...
...a crystal stopper from a broken decanter, a rubber lizard...
Benjamin Franklin refrigerator magnet from a trip to Philly, a vintage
lighter, wind up alarm clock and a glass eye, among a whole pile of
random oddities now displayed for all (or at least me) to enjoy.
Thanks, Charmaine, for the inspiration and the fun!
What a neat idea! It kind of reminds me of the time-capsules that were so popular at one time.
ReplyDeleteHey Willow! Come over and "Get Your Irish Up" with me!
Kat
Fabulous! I especially like the Ben Franklin.
ReplyDeleteCatherine
Very nice collection!
ReplyDeleteI'm still working on my own!!!
ReplyDeleteI've thrown in a handful of sea glass.
I have not seen Bakelite anything in the longest.
Cool.
willow, this is fabulous! great photos also....love your angles.
ReplyDeleteYour bowl turned out great.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful Willow!
ReplyDeleteI sooooo have to fix one of these for The Porch! Thanks for the idea!
Carol
This is a beauty! The choices, the placement and the photography. It holds in silence and creates conversation and with a little effort a story could evolve!! Wow!
ReplyDeleteOh Willow....that is beautiful!! love your goodies in your jar! so vintage....
ReplyDeleteThat is a really great idea and I also love the Benjamin Franklin magnet.
ReplyDeleteI love your jar of treasures! That Bakelite die makes me want to rub it. I once bought a whole bowl of glass stoppers. Thanks for show and telling.
ReplyDeleteI'm Back, just saw your comment at Rob's about Geocaching and LOL! Excuse me Ms Willow, but what about me, I introduced Robster to it! ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how a few interesting objects put together become an even more interesting work of art that you can change at any time. Very well done, Willow. Now I have to go see Charmaine's- I'm trying to catch up, since my modem gave up the ghost last Thursday.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun Willow - I love your bowl of goodies, especially the glass eye! xv
ReplyDeleteI loved her project too! I must make one now. Your Ben Franklin bust is irresistible.
ReplyDeleteThis is fun! Your collection of stuff is wonderful. Having inherited my Mom’s eclectic collection of interesting things, I simply must try this, if you don’t mind. I have set upon set of bakelite dice and other bits and bobs. What a great eye for arrangement you have dear Willow! As for our walking; the tree pollen is so thick, I dare not venture out much at all, and have been laid low. As soon as I can, I will return to our gentle walks. Don’t wait for me. I hope to “catch up.”
ReplyDeleteLovely bowl full of eclectic stuff.
ReplyDeleteis such a cool idea! One day when I no longer have toddlers I might be able to accomplish something like that!
ReplyDeleteI ♥ that idea!!! Would be such a neat gift, too, for a graduating student/bride -- keepsakes from his/her childhood, etc., etc.! Or for a family member.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! I'm going to start one of my own. I really like yours though - you have lots of really cool stuff.
ReplyDeleteYou have a great collection of "stuff"! I'm going to try this but... I don't know... my "stuff" isn't cool like yours!
ReplyDeleteVery cool collection. I think I'll try this ... somehow I missed reading HDD's "Glass" blog. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI try to keep things like this but my husband only refers to them as my "bowl of junks". He doesn't get it at all, I think...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful collection! :-)
ReplyDeleteI have a large glass vase, like an elongated fish bowl, where I like to assemble little seasonal glass-scapes.
cool! i have a couple of these around the house. one's filled with shells and the other with beads at the moment, but this is a great idea! i love to change them out anyway and it's time! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great. I guess I am gonna have to start working on mine real soon.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing.
God Bless.
Et voila! Merveilleux. Lovely image. What I loved the most was that you took us through the process. An artist at work is worth a thousand Picassos. Many thanks.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
Super idea - shall try it myself - it is always a problem to know what to do with one's little treasures - they take up space and are not shown to best advantage . an't wait to have a go.
ReplyDeleteOh, Willow, I love it! Very nicely done. And, isn't it nice to have all of those little treasured knick-knacks contained?!
ReplyDelete{When we lived in your town we found a wonderful book, with great photos, all about Bakelite at your favorite bookstore in the old church with the creeky floors. I loved that place.}
Ohhhh....it's fabulous!
ReplyDeleteHello Willow,
ReplyDeleteI'm joining the Benjamin Franklin team! It looks very refined for a fridge magnet!
Great idea and I love what you put together. Makes me think of some many other ways to display small collections.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I had a think about it and your glass bowl would be ideal for the cover of a mystery novel, I believe.
ReplyDeleteKat
Totally fun and beautiful, too. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous, Willow! Lovely shots!
ReplyDeleteOH!!!This is very very nice!Well done!
ReplyDeleteThings like this are such fun. You get a glimpse into people's lives and surroundings, and in your case, get to see some lovely photographs as well. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever and always on the cutting edge .. who does you dusting?
ReplyDeleteA rubber lizard.. that made me smile. What a wonderful idea.. given me an idea to set up one of my own..
ReplyDeleteWillow, somehow I just knew you were gonna do this! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun little project to do. Hmmm...maybe I will try it as well.
ReplyDeleteAnd lovely macro photography
ReplyDeleteWhat a great project. I love the end result.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! What happens, though, I'm wondering, if your whole damn house is one big keepsake ball!? Not so good eh? I think that might be what we have. Lovely images, Willow!
ReplyDeleteA Brush With Color, you made me laugh out loud!! That is exactly what we have, too...one big keepsake ball!!
ReplyDeleteMagic views! Thank you for this post!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Not only it is visually interesting but also a great piece of conversation. I was thinking that it would be a lot of fun to write a story inspired on all the pieces collected on your glass.
ReplyDeleteglass eye? All seeing, all knowing.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea and keeps those little treasures out of the dust! You have pulled together a very intriguing collection.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking what a great place to put all the notes sitting under my keyboard...you know the ones...the ones you NEVER look at EVER again, but are scared to death to get rid of...yeah, them!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the eyeball...sorta like the turkey head that guards my domain(heap).
sharon
great idea and a conversation piece
ReplyDeleteThis one may be just too much fun!
ReplyDeleteA dynamic collection from a dynamic soul! I truly have so much fun stopping by your Willow Manor where treasures abound!
that clock is to die for! isn't it interesting to see what we'd put in a jar, for keepsake? it can say so much about a person.
ReplyDeletelovely pieces...thanks for sharing.
sweet!! it turned out so loverly!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat an eclectic mix - love it. Sort of like a glass wishing well!
ReplyDeleteI'm with A Brush with Colour - my whole place is an ongoing collection of collections! I do like my tchotchkes, trinkets, and treasures...
cry-ma-nee that is one great project. I would have to buy a glass something or other to fit my stuff in. Right now my garage isn't two cars wide as there are a row of floor to ceiling cabinets with those plastic tubs behind each door. Some have more than one tub. All the tubs are filled with treasures that actually came out of my house, our office, or from somewhere. And when I really want something I know where it is but I am seldom able to find it without going through a lot of storage tubs.
ReplyDeleteI guess the solution is to get a large glass container and then fill it with recipe cards, in order, and each card has the contents of each tub.
This is SO you!
ReplyDeleteLove it...and I have just the jar in my store room to start one of my own...if I can get thru the stuff in the store room to find it!
ReplyDeletethat IS fun! and i love it displayed with the light from the window coming thru. i'd forgotten you owned a glass eye!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea. My house is full of little treasures like this and I am always looking for ways to display them. I'll definitely be trying this. Thanks, and yours turned out wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWonderful!I have keepsake containers all over the house but I've never thought of using glass except for sea glass and shells in the studio. An AHA! moment for me thanks Willow!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful and quirky idea! I love keys and buttons. I'll have to make a note to try this!
