Willow's Weekly Word

Pisces (February 19 - March 20) the twelfth and final sign of the
zodiac, is represented by two fish swimming in opposite directions.
Pisceans are said to be imaginative individuals who, like fish, can
appear slippery and indistinct, moving with the current. Pisces is
a sensitive and compassionate mutable water sign.

One of the most popular stories regarding the mythological origin of
Pisces is the story of Aphrodite and Eros. The story involves
Aphrodite and her son Eros escaping from the terrible monster
Typhon by turning themselves into fish and hiding underwater until
it was safe to come back to the surface. As fish, they tied their tails
together with a cord so they wouldn't lose one another while
swimming in the darkness of the deep. Upon hearing their tale,
Zeus rewarded the pair by placing them among the stars as the
constellation of Pisces

Pisces is the sign of the romantic and the dreamer. When this sign
is prominent in the birth chart, it implies great sensitivity. Pisceans
are usually private people who may feel misunderstood by others.
They often enjoy music or art as an outlet for their feelings.
Possessing strong intuitive powers, Pisceans are able to tune into
the atmosphere around them and respond accordingly. They often
indicate the need to be alone, for rest and recuperation and are,
more often than not, a bit introverted. They enjoy being on or near
water, where they allow themselves to drift along.

The ruling planet is Neptune. Gemstones are the moonstones and
bloodstones. The Picsean color is soft sea green. Flower is the
waterlily. The body part is the feet. And the countries associated
with this sign are Portugal, Scandinavia, Mediterranean Islands and
the Gobi and Sahara Deserts. (Go figure on the dry, hot deserts.
They don't sound very fishy to me!)

So, hey-hey, there you have it. Best wishes for a very Happy
Birthday to all my Picscean bloggy friends!

  4. Thank you very very much for that great post. You know...

Lol,yes the desert..but very strange cause before reading that,I made another poem that I will put tomorrow and I called it Sahara and don't know why.As for the place, perhaps like the desert, you can never see the end,can never entirely know a Pisces, also about hallucinations when in a desert,Pisces and illusions...

To me when I hear Sahara,I feel calm,i see lot of magic instead of emptiness. To me the wide desert I want to compare it as the imagination and also the unknown, the unconscious.

    Well,sorry for that long message.

    Thanks again.

    :)

  6. willow, I am a pisces, March 9th, and the descriptions fit me to a T. I love to be near water, am imaginative, need time alone, am very sensitive to people and my surroundings and I am extremely intuitive.

  7. Beautiful painting. My mom is a Pisces.

  8. Really nice steel drum tune, & I always enjoy these weekly word features. My mom is a Pisces-- some of the characteristics fit: she is introverted in the old sense of the word (draws energy more from inside than external) & she does use art (as an observer or listener) to externalize her moods. Interesting stuff.

  9. Happy music. Happy fish. I am an Aquarian so the advent of the Piscean time of year signals the close of mine. HELLO and WELCOME Pisces.

  10. Best wishes all you Pisces out there. And thanks Willow, I had been meaning to check the dates to see if my new grandson is a Pisces...no, but I realized one of my son's is. That shows how much I depend on these things. My son will be 25 and this is the first time I've ever thought about it. haha

  11. My husband is a Pisces, and this does fit him, except he seeks mountains more than water. Thanks for the great read.

  12. piscean women have been my challenge in this life, so i have always found myself surrounded by them-they have amzing energies

  13. You laughed at the inclusion of the deserts, but I think you should reconsider. The dunes of the Sahara often look like large rolling waves of sand, and they change almost as effortlessly. The Sahara is said to have a strange effect on its visitors, because it's silence is so penetrating. I imagine it would have the same effect on you as being adrift in the middle of the ocean, albeit without the rocking.

  17. Willow, you have the knack of always picking just the right tune or picture to accompany your posts. The steel drum rendition of "Under the Sea" from Disney's The Little Mermaid added just the right note to your Pisces entry. Thanks for sharing.

  21. Hello Willow,

I really like the illustration you have chosen. The tear reminds me of Pierrot!

My eldest sister is pisces but I can't see much of her in this description!

  22. Not my sign, but I seem to share some characteristics. Love those steel drums. I must go down to the sea again. Thanks. Pappy

  23. Interesting Pisces info. I find Pisces people to be overly sensitive and moody, but then I'm just a flighty and heartless Gemini! ;-)

  24. Once you hear steel drums, you're not apt to forget 'em. Incredible sounds from what some would just toss out. I watched a band in action when I was down in Barbados( many years ago ). Also in Puerto Rico. Amazing talent it takes to master one of these! Or is that an understatement?

  25. Pisceans have lots of friends. They don't make good boyfriends.

  26. It is so nice to come back from holidays (still jetlagged as I write) and find one my favourite blogs with SO MUCH info about my darling daughter's Zodiacal sign :-D. Is that why we 'clash' so often :-)? I am a water sign myself, Scorpio, and sometimes her stubborness collides with my control freakery.

And before I forget you have one of my favourite poets by your bedside table, Mr Hughes. What else can one ask for on his return to the blogosphere? Many thanks for a lovely post and for the wonderful music. Some things either maintain the same good quality or change for the better like your new header, I am in love with it. I am a sucker for black and white paintings, book covers, photographs, you name it.

    Greetings from London.

  27. This is my birth sign although I have Aries rising and my moon in Libra, to perhaps make me a bit less dreamy than some Pisces.

I must apologise in case I sounded a bit abrupt in your recent post about trying to lose some 'blub'. I've now decided to also try and do some losing of my own and am doing weight watchers at home - I've done it before and it always works. I've just got to be determined and stick to my 20 daily points.

good luck with all the walking

    Very interesting. Thanks.

  30. As an Aries, on the cusp of Pisces, there are indeed some inner battles, but I like the calm that Pisces can bring.
    Thanks.

  32. Thanks Willow...I also have a 17 year old boy and an 18 year old daughter.....which is why I am hating to see "babydom" go bye bye!

  35. Thank you so much for the valuable information on Pisces! My first grandchild, due this very week, will be a 'Piscean.' We don't know the gender - one of life's great surprises - but I can now count on some worthy attributes!!

  36. I love the story of Aphrodite and Eros. I love the story of Eros and Psyche too. Mythology is wonderful, isn't it?

Most Pisces people I know do love water.

  37. My dreamy son is a Pisces and will be 15 in about 2 weeks. I'm not allowed to post his picture on my site but he has light sea green eyes.

  38. How fabulous it would be to turn yourself into a fish and escape under the sea. I think I would like to be a mermaid actually.

    CJ xx

  39. Fascinating stuff, all of it. My BFF in "real life" is a Pisces--so much of your description fits. Didn't know the mythological origin, but it raises a question: why, if Aphrodite & Eros tied their tails together (because they did not wish to lose each other?), do they swim in opposite directions?
Adore the illustration you chose (the tear is most interesting).
You have done it again. Thank you.

  40. P.S. Loved the steel drums--and am still chuckling over the choice of song. Very sly ;)
