I have been cooking on a glass/ceramic/smooth top electric stove for so long and the cast irons just didn't work, at least on top. And in the oven they are so heavy that I cannot easily lift hem, arthritis in wrists. Hoever in our motor home, we have a gas stove and use a couple cast iron skillets there., They do bake the best cornbread! And pineapple upside down cake too!
