year, we cleared the furniture from the front room, and rolled up
the carpets for a perfect dance floor. Every nook and cranny of the
manor is filled with candles and the most exquisite red roses.
Please check into the comment section and tell me who is
accompanying you and what music you would like to hear, or just
say "hello" and let me know you popped in. Remember, most of the
fun takes place behind the scenes, in the manor comment section,
so don't forget to take a gander.

Thank you so very much for coming and I hope you enjoy the
evening, which is miraculously lasting all day long. Everyone who
leaves a comment today will be included in the drawing for an
elegant door prize. So, please come in and enjoy. There's plenty of
Tinkerbell sparkle to last the entire day!
it would be frightfully dull, and-and-and boring,
and-and completely... completely wonderful.
.
Cinderella
was a bit
of drama,
to start off
this year's
ball, since
Sir
Anthony
Hopkins
was
already
here at
the manor
when
Johnny Depp drove up in his cute red convertible and warmly greeted me with a kiss. Tony, feeling a tad jealous, pulled
a gun on Johnny and I had to diffuse the situation, by promising both
lovely men I would pay equal attention to them for the duration of
the evening. Poor me, I'll try my best to manage both single handed.
I must admit, I had no idea Tony had such
strong feelings for me. I reminded him
that Johnny and I could very easily be
distant cousins, and he had nothing to
worry about in the romance department.
Tony has become a bit more bold in
recent days, a departure from his
Remains of the Day demeanor. I'm sure
it must be that Fractured role that made
him so handy with the pistol.

Tony, ever the elegant
gentleman, quickly put
away the gun and I was
completely relieved as
gentleman, quickly put
away the gun and I was
completely relieved as
the two shook hands and
smiled, amicably. (Yes,
this is me, greeting
Johnny on his arrival at
the manor. I'm wearing
an amazing red satin gown.
More on that in a bit...)
Whose idea was it to
have two dates,
anyway? Remind me
next year to just pick
one. I know. Libras can
never decide.
of my manor
library, and
I mixed
both of them a nice drink. Depp and books? Ooo-la-la!
Tony was my date at
last year's Manor Ball.
He has again,
graciously agreed to
play a bit of the
Goldberg Variations,
he played in
Hannibal, for us later
tonight. Did I
mention he dances
like a god? Looking
him directly
in the eyes, while
dancing, is making
me absolutely weak
in the knees. Last
year, I swooned, just
so he would catch me. I think I just might have to do it again. He's probably going to think I'm a narcoleptic. What I am most
looking forward to, however is filling my dance card with the
names of all you lovely bloggy gentlemen. Now, where's the
elegant Mr. PhilipH? He asked for my first dance. I'm saving the
last waltz for the charming Mr. Maalie.
this incredible
Ives Saint Laurent
red gown, I won at
Christie's in New York.
It's said to have been
owned by Audrey
Hepburn.
Don't I look
simply cyberlicious?
She and I are the
same size you know,
since anything is
possible at the Manor
Ball. It's truly
amazing what a
little pixie dust
can do.
diamond earrings that just match
my diamond and ruby necklace.
Do you think they're too much
worn together?
Nah.
to find the perfect
shoes, since I want
to dance til dawn
and still be light
on my feet, as well
as stylish. I finally
settled on this
fabulous pair by
Jimmy Choo. Oh,
and, you like my
scent? I rang up
Coco (Chanel)
and she
concocted this
magical fragrance
just for me. Heaven.
I am
especially
delighted,
another
heart
throb, the
dreamy
Roger
Livesey,
(you know
him from
the film
I Know
Where
I'm
Going) is here.
I was so hoping he would wear his kilt from the movie, since I am totally nutty for a man in a kilt, but he looks simply dashing in his top hat and tails, don't you think? Here he is chatting with our housekeeper upon his arrival at the manor. Now, I especially counting on Barry to keep his promise to wear his tartan. Sorry, Linda, forgive me if he does.
Our Master of Ceremonies
is the magnificent baritone, Bryn Terfel.
Here's a peep of him yesterday,
with the orchestra,
rehearsing the opening song
for tonight,
Some Enchanted Evening.
(I've got him penciled into my dance
card more than once!)

has practiced his dance
steps, not wanting to be
out done by Fred Astaire's
fancy hoofing. Get in line
with your dance cards,
girls. Wait a minute...
is this Mr. Fox or Cary
Grant? I can never tell.
are crates
of fabulous
vintage
champagne!
I think I'll
help myself
to a glass of
bubbly right
now. Would
you like one,
too? Here, let
me drop in a strawberry. Oh, how pretty. Cheers! Go ahead, feel free to throw your glass and crash it into the fireplace.
Please help yourself to all this wonderful fancy food, including caviar
Please help yourself to all this wonderful fancy food, including caviar
and seafood tapas. No expense was spared in hiring the best caterers
in town, in fact they are the same excellent ones we used last year.
I don't know about you, but I'm starved from all this hopping
dance floor.
Let's dig in!
Last year,
Tom Hanks
was seen
scraping
off all the
caviar
garnishes.
Don't let
him do
it again.

And last, but not least, for
all of us who have a sweet
tooth, there are lots of
lovely desserts, including
this scrumptious chocolate
mousse tart with raspberries.
Mmm. Don't be shy. Since
these are, of course, cyber
sweets we can eat as many
of these lovelies as we like
and not worry about
gaining a single ounce!
How fun is this?!
Well, it's time for one last
slow dance. Let's venture
out to the patio...
The weather is gorgeous tonight.
The patio is lit and set with tables.
It's soooo romantic.
(((sigh)))
It was a lovely evening, was it not?! After dancing until
the wee hours of the morning, I must get my beauty sleep.
Stop in for brunch around noon tomorrow and we'll chat about all
the fun bloggy scuttlebutt.
Ta-ta, my friends!
Sweet dreams!
(((kiss-kiss)))

So - I hear there's a shindig a happenen'?
ReplyDeleteLovely curtains.
Mmmm caviar.
Is that!? . . . . no it possibly can't be. . . is it?
So Willow - you available this Sunday? I'm gonna go find the Manor Ghost and have a dance.
Flying in for a few laughs with Mr Mmmm... on the terrace, what a gorgeous evening it is!
ReplyDeleteThank you Willow for creating such an enchanted evening!
And to get the weather to cooperate?
You truly are a goddess :)
My dress was inspired by the dress that Gabrielle Anwar wore in the tango scene from Scent Of a Woman...
Do you tango, Mr. Mmmm?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBHhSVJ_S6A
Thank you for the invite and for a lovely evening!
Willow my dahling. Sorry, must dash. I have some... uh...urgent business to take care of back onboard "SnL One." Thank you for inviting me! I had a blast!
ReplyDeleteI have come with an elegant blond disguised as a bear and I am disguised as The Great Panjandrum Himself.I shall ask the pianist to play Eric Satie, dance till dawn and walk through the meadows through the morning fog and dew.
ReplyDeleteMarc, we have the most glorious autumnal early morning fog that rolls across the manor grounds. Perfect for walking.
ReplyDeleteDitch the blond and walk with me!
NTR, Mr. Toast (Mmm) has been cozied up in the manor kitchen all evening. I think he mentioned something about making his famous mulled wine for our brunch tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteTa-ta, Skip! ((kiss-kiss)) You were marvelous, dear friend. Thanks for coming.

ReplyDeleteWhew! I think I need some fresh air... all that dancing! I'll just step out here onto the veranda for awhile.
ReplyDeleteWhat bow tie did Derrick wear? And is that Miss Piggy's ruby red slipper peeking from under the buffet table? Piggy dear, are you under there? she said lifting the cloth to peek. "Here, here let me help you up. We will go find Derrick."
ReplyDeleteMy, but there is a lot of confetti and red rose petals strewn about...
Mr Toast is hiding in the kitchen is he?
ReplyDeleteMmmm...
Suppose I will have to lure him out with a trail of biccie crumbs :)...
Rene
Anyone for breakfast after the ball? But then the night's still young! I think I'll go dance some more.
ReplyDeleteLeslie, I never got close enough to Derrick to see which bow tie he ended up wearing! Where has he been hiding all evening? I'm afraid Piggy has kept him far from me!
ReplyDeleteWillow, you look fierce. Great ball. I am gracing the walls and watching.
ReplyDeleteDear Willow, Theseus and Hippolyta put on quite a do for their wedding, and the Windsors have hosted some magnificent events, but your evening simply outshines them all.
ReplyDeleteMr. Terfel sings like an angel (is he married?....)
I started to come in but was afraid my mismatched pajamas would not be acceptable attire. Alas. So I watched for a while through the window until your guard dogs chased me away.
ReplyDeleteWe finally made it...My date, the Phantom, I mean Gerard( note to self..must stop calling him that...) and I are fashionably late...
ReplyDeleteHe said he would be delighted to sing some ALW numbers tonight..
Now, did someone say mulled wine is being served? I think MMM needs to get out of the kitchen and take a turn with me on the dance floor!
because I have a sweet tooth I am afraid I went the most ga-ga over the picture of the dessert :-)
ReplyDeletebut all and everything looked very elegant, lovely and enchanted.
Everyone is tired. Have they all fallen asleep? It is 9pm. here. What a wonderful day Willow! Your party, your birthday such a fantastic event. It was so much planning and extra hours on your part to pull it off, but a good time was had by all. Totalfeckineejit left with my Morgan Roadster. Who knew? Thank you for a fun filled day at my blog spot too.
ReplyDeleteI stumbled across this delightful ball in my wanderings, and simply must crash. I have dug up an old frock and I am ready to par-tay! Is anyone still here? Well, at least there is some food left.
ReplyDeleteWillow, how lovely of you to host this fabulous ball. I plan to tango the night away with Viggo.
ReplyDeleteOh, darrrrrrlinggg. Your shoes are simply magnificent. To die for, actually. Now, dear. Do be a good hostess and share your date. Just for a dance. Or two?"
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, girls, do come in! We're still dancing, believe it or not and there's plenty of marvelous good and drinks. Of course, Relyn, I'd love to share my date with you, daaaling!
ReplyDeleteRight, that's it! I'm coming out of the closet! Errr! Wait! Scratch that...I mean to say out of the kitchen!! Hee.
ReplyDeleteWho's still on the ballroom dance floor? Typical! My pencil broke. How am I going to pencil my name in for a dance? Rene? Rebecca? anyone?
Sorry, I don;t drink but for those Olive Garden restaurant samples and my mulled sine around xmas. I've been making the brew just perfect but got a lil bit noshed. had to sleep it off in that cozy chair by your desk in the kitchen, Willow.
I understand Binoche is quite the professional dancer too so better get my wits about me. Right, messing up my hair now. Looking good and ready to get out on the dance floor again. LOL.
Sorry I'm late. I always like making a splashy entrance.
ReplyDeletehttp://washingtoncube.blogspot.com/
Don't get high on your own supply.
Thank you, Willow, for a perfect evening. The desserts were perfect: chocolate and strawberries are divine.
ReplyDeleteMmm, I think both Rene and Rebecca were looking for a dance with you. Okay, yep, your hair looks devine. (I say, pushing you toward the dance floor.)
ReplyDeleteWillow dear, you are so devine! I have been at the Manor all day soaking in and watching the fun. I especially loved my dance with Depp when I could steal him away from you. Then such kindness by Thomas Crown, oh la la! I'm feeling a wee bit dizzy and my steleto heels are starting to hurt. I'm not ready to go but my charted jet does have a deadline. Thanks for a wanderful time! Oh enjoy the rest of the night!http://www.wishlist.nu/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/neiman-marcus.jpg
ReplyDeleteOh, Willow....you won't believe it....have you seen him?....one of Miss Piggy's old flames is HERE at the Manor...I just did a news flash over at TKR....now I am not too deft at linking up videos...but I did manage to catch her on film with him....wait until you see this....click on the post title...that worked for me...it is a sensation!
ReplyDeleteAfter I calmed down from seeing Nureyev....well....Bryn was performing....his voice is so beautifully tender...yet strong...it brought tears....He sang several songs after Some Enchanted Evening....Shennandoah....Danny Boy...what a fabulous way to end the evening......and I can't believe it is almost over...thank you, thank you, thank you......{{{{{{{WILLOW}}}}}}}}} Goodnight, Princess!
ReplyDeleteMmm ~ now why are you putting on this shy act? You were dancing the tango wonderfully a few hours ago! Don't keep those ladies waiting! ;)
ReplyDeleteOh dear!! This Cinderella lost her glass shoe, and to add insult to injury, my coach has turned into a pumpkin!! What is a girl to do??!!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness, Prince Charming came up with an alternate means of transportation!! He traded in the pumpkin for a Rolls!!
Thanks for having us!! It sure is a lovely party!! Ooopps, gotta go before the clock strikes midnight!!
Well, it's been lovely, Willow. I've had such a nice mellow time whilst allthis gallavanting on jet planes adn such has been going on. Met lots of lovely people too but it's getting rather late now. I suppose poor old Juliette will have to find that dance later. Still we did have so much fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the dance and for everyone else too that came along. I suspect we all lost a combo of 5000 calories or so, no? :)
I suspect there have been more people here than last year, don't you think? A mashing success by all accounts!
But you must be getting exhausted, surely? How are the feet? Even mine are sore and i don;t have to contend with heels! I'm going to take a nice leisurely soak whilst catching up on British Edition of "Home and Garden"...I think I'll bring night cap of my mulled wine to boot.
Will try to pop in for the brunch too later but for now relaxation calls. Be sure to help yourself to my special brew. It had the finest port, and dark red wine, with slices of orange and lemons with cloves. Very cozy inducing indeed.
Thank you again. It's been a truly lovely day into evening. Good night. Ahhh.
Ta.ta, gotta go. It was the greatest of times, Willow. You do know how to throw a party. Lovely company. This was the best, ever. I'm glad you invited me. Thanks a million, from all of us. We'll be talking about this for months...
ReplyDeleteIt's been utterly fabulous but alas, I must leave you now. The night is growing late and I must away to my slumber. (Has anyone seen my glass slipper?)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dear, Dear Willow for a delightful evening!
Until next year...
ReplyDeleteWillow. Uma.
Uma. Willow.
She was wearing a flowing gown but I stepped on it helping her out of the limo.
That's why she's donning your red velvet parlor curtain.
Pardon me while I stuff my pockets with food morsels.
And don't laugh at our stocking feet.
:::striking match::: I think I'm locked in the wine cellar::::
ReplyDeleteOh Willow, the night is still young, but I am not. Thank you for the camaraderie; I've met some new blogging friends in a much more socially intriguing light. I won a bundle off the boys in the back room, including the Ferrari I came in! It may smell slightly of stale cigar smoke in there for awhile, my apologies. You'll have quite the clean-up from the pool escapade as well. Peace, and Happy Birthday-you throw a fabulous party. Warm regards, Wolfy
ReplyDeleteHello Willow dear! I am sorry for my late arrival. It has been a true journey to get here. However, I brought the sexiest man alive to be my escort... my husband, Bill! He can definitely hold his own amidst the A list crowd already here. He is a 6'1" blue eyed ruggedly handsome gentleman. He turns heads everywhere he goes. And, yes, ladies, he is going home with me tonight, so enjoy dancing with him while you can!
ReplyDeleteI am wearing a classy red number with a white silk wrap to keep the October evening chill off when I wander in the gardens.
The rumors and gossip about what has happened before my arrival are simply delicious!
The manor is gorgeous and the fare is delightful, even this late in the party! How do you do it?
I will continue to admire all the glittering assemblage from the dance floor, where I intend to wear right through the soles of my ballet slippers. You can't see them under all the material of my dress, but they are SO comfortable!
Thank you for a wonderful evening, Willow, I hope to come next year!
:::Uncorking a champagne bottle. What the heck. it's going to be a long night locked in here. Shades of Ingrid Bergman in Notorious. Where's Cary Grant when you need him?:::
ReplyDeleteIf we close the door, the night could last forever. And sweet mercy what a night it's been so far! Superlative in every sense.
ReplyDeleteSo Cary went anyway...imagine my surprise that he would attend after I locked him up! What a clever dancer...look at his moves. I hope he didn't push Johnny over the edge with jealousy...you know how unpredictable Depp can be! Lovely event!
ReplyDeleteoh, willow! this was a delightful read! congrats on hosting your second fab ball!
ReplyDeleteWOWZA!
ReplyDeletewhat a fun post, and YOU DO look stunning.
i am so jealous....johnny's cheating on me AGAIN with you!
xx
